This is such a shallow and horrible show!

I hate this show!

It gets fat people and embarrasses them, for the viewers' amusement and self-justification.It is the ultimate form of schaudlefreude. These people are obviously vulnerable, and chasing approval, given how emotional they are, and this is played upon by the trainers to get the results they want.

This show puts across the stereotype that fat people are ugly and unlovable. The contestants are made to feel weak and each one has no self-esteem to speak of. The trainers (none of who would know what it was like to be fat) act disgusted with these people, and try to change them to being "ideal".

The trainers don't understand anyway. When have any of them been overweight? They are gym monkeys, who burn off weight quicker than they put it on. They have never had to battle weight issues. It is hard to empathise when you have never walked in the other person's shoes. At least Alison Sweeney from the U.S. edition has had weight issues, so she knows both sides. Hayley Lewis is a nice and kind person, but she was not overweight when she was swimming in the Olympics. She tries to understand, but has come from a background of sport, where fitness is paramount.

The trainers don't get that not everyone enjoys exercise. The trainers obviously love doing exercise and dieting, and that is good for them, but they then try to impose their fanatical beliefs onto vulnerable people. If a person doesn't want to exercise, or diet, or even lose weight, it is their decision, and their life. Maybe family and their doctor has a say, but everyone else should STFU and look at the massive log in their own eye first.

You know, character is more important than looks. There are plenty of nice and nasty fat people, and plenty of nice and nasty slim people. Being skinny doesn't make you happy (there are plenty of people who aren't grossly overweight, yet they are miserable). You may get more compliments and friends, but they are false friends, who only like you because now you are acceptable to them. True friends accept you no matter what your shape. You may become more acceptable to the opposite sex, but many of them are superficial, and will dump you the minute you put on some weight.

That kid getting picked on at school because of his weight. It won't make a difference. If he is slim, they will just pick on him constantly about something else, because unless you are in the "in" crowd, you are picked on. I know!

What this show is doing is a form of genetic engineering. They are trying to turn people into the "perfect" specimen. You know who else tried to make the perfect human? Adolf Hitler!!! He exterminated anyone who didn't fit his mold of a perfect human, in order to create an Aryan race.

In the end, it is your own life. You do have responsibilities to family, and to your own health. But unless YOU come to that decision, it will never be effective. You don't owe anything to Joe Bloggs in the street, who judges you by your size, without ever knowing you.Until you learn to like who you are, no matter what colour, shape or size, you will not be happy, slim or not.

I am overweight, but I know that I am a good and upright person, who tries to judge other's actions, not their shape or size. It is not easy losing weight, and only others who have struggled with it understand. I would like to lose weight for my health, but I don't need false friends to make me happy. I am happy in my own skin, no matter if I have a bit extra. Self-acceptance comes from inside, not what you do on the outside.

Will turning off the TV make the show's lack of morality go away?

Gee, the old "turn it off then" line. Never heard that before. It is such a cliche, to simply not watch it.

I don't know why you bothered commenting when that is all you have to contribute.

Will posting here make it go away? Listen, at the end of the day the contestants know what they're getting into. It's THEIR choice to be there. I say good for them.

Unfortunately it is so extreme that that lifestyle would be very hard for them to follow but you hope for the best.

You think because you're overweight that you speak for everyone? Your opinion is fair but very extremist. Despite what you may think, this show does build character for these people. Even if it only lasts temporarily, at least it gives them a taste and a chance they may not have wanted to give into previously.

As far as the trainers, you might find this hard to believe but some of the best trainers have come from a place of more understanding than you can possibly imagine. I myself am now an extreme athlete and trainer and I used to have a lot of issues. Are all trainers the same? No. But they do have one thing in common... Despite some of their odd methods, they have one goal: to improve lives. Who are you to slap that in the face, especially when these contestants willingly sign up and audition.

Many of the contestants are feeling vulnerable and may have low self-esteems. It is very easy for any "snake-oil" salesman to come along and offer them the world, and if these people are desperate enough, they will fall for anything.

This show, like the fitness industry it represents, plays on people's guilt and low self-esteem, by offering them more friends, more romantic interest, which will lead people to like themselves more. But if you don't like yourself anyway, you will receive acceptance from people with selfish motivations to be your friend.

Generally, it is another example of the "God complex", where people try to control your life for you. These contestants need to find their own exercise programs that work for them, not be dictated to by others, who aren't walking in their shoes.

The fitness and gym industry is a multi-billion dollar industry who peddle guilt to get and keep customers, offering them "acceptance", when only a person themselves can find their own self-acceptance. Friends, family, lovers or employers who only deal with you when you are a weight THEY deem acceptable aren't worth being "accepted" by. True family and friends will accept you regardless.

The fitness idustry and the tobacco industry have a lot in common. They both pedal that using their "product" will make you seem more "acceptable" and plays on people's low self-esteem.

If the fitness industry had their way, the only thing that would remain fat is their bank balance from suckers who believed that being a certain weight, not character, makes you a better person.
