Proffy's age does not add up

Proffy is either ten or eleven in the movies as it is the summer between 5th and 6th grades. But his parents talk about escaping Poland with him having been conceived there and Proffy's uncle be killed during the escape. So that puts the family arriving in Palestine/Israel no later than 1937. Long before Poland was invaded which was the first battle of the war.
