Kind of Worried

I was watching the latest season of FOA and saw how bad Alton looked in his black t-shirt. Even if he hadn't had heart trouble before he is seriously overweight. Man boobs and a pot belly are hardly an endorsement for "Good Eats".

That bit where he was rolling around on the ground wasn't one of his best moments.

Well, when your idea of breakfast is a bowl of salted popcorn and half and half(!) what do you expect?

I couldn't make this stuff up; it was the Popcorn show "Pop Culture" right near the end.

There are numerous other times where he's practically wagging his finger at the camera when a recipe calls for milk and he says not to use skim or 2%.

Last time I watched Flat is Beautiful III and he reached for the heavy cream as he made Baked Stuffed Flounder http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_33060,00.html I was reminded why he's gone to pot.

Just curious, do any of you actually cook? Because there are some recipes that absolutely will NOT work if you use skim or 2% milk. It is not simply a matter of "healthy" versus "not healthy", it is more a matter of what works for a particular recipe. Besides, a little butter or cream is not going to harm anyone. Ever hear of the "French Paradox"? They eat lots of butter, cream, cheese, and rich sauces ALL the time, and yet, have low heart disease rates, and not a lot of obesity. Makes you wonder.
You can't expect AB and crew to eat only low fat, healthy food on trip like this, healthy eating is not the purpose of the series. If you will notice, he admits that they are eating WAY too many fried foods and they need to eat more salad and veggies. So at least he is trying to send a positive message about the perils of eating the way they are.

Well, they were on this trip for more than four weeks. Out of approximately 500 waking hours on that trip, we will see only 6 hours of footage. None of us have any idea about what they ate off camera. We have no idea of any exercise they did off camera. To speculate that all they ate for the entire trip was exactly what we are shown, and nothing else, is ludicrous. FOA is NOT a show about health food or healthy living. It is about regional food, the history behind that food, and the people that are responsible for making that food.
Most importantly, it is about the quickly disappearing heritage of said food that is being lost forever to corporate chains. I am truly sorry that you missed the point of FOA because it is transcendent in its purpose and should be praised.
