shareNo, the lawyer and her weren't in anything together. It was never a sure thing that she was having a girl. The medical personnel simply told her early in the pregnancy that the baby looks like a girl but it wasn't for certain by any means.
The baby and his mother got the money because the baby was born within the confines of a marriage. As long as the baby was male and born within the confines of a marriage, the father was supposed to get the inheritance. As the father was in prison, then the wife and baby are entitled to the money.
Not if the husgand challenges paternity. Additionally, while a perpetrator can't benefit from a crime, he was not responsible for his grandfather's death, therefore the husband would inherit, not the nonbiological child. Attempting to murder his wife and the child, while totally heinous and horrendous, would not affect his inheritance. The money would have been held in trust for him until he was paroled or until his death.
The ending sucked plain and simple. Either he accepted the child as his and therefore inherited the money, or he challenged paternity and lost the money. Either way, she wouldn't have inherited anything. At best, a trust could have been established for the child and she could have been appointed trustee, giving her access to a set amount of funds each year for the child and a stipend for herself. (See Katherine Jackson for example)
