vantage point?

doesnt this point of view bit seem like it has already been done?
i mean vantage point was kinda the same idea.
the novelty of a movie being made with the plot just showing different peoples points of view and not actual content is kinda getting old imo
i guess we'll just have to wait and see tho as i hate judging movies before they come out.

just a thought.

Yeah I saw an ad for Vantage Point and at first I actually thought it was this movie, lol. But I still think Power of Few does look really good and I hope it actually does go ahead, although as it's been in pre-production for about 2 years now I don't think that's going to happen...

I wonder if they're still doing that "Edit an action scene" competition? Q'Orianka looked so cool in the trailer for it =).

i actually read the script to this movie and its nothing like vantage point, it seems like its going to be great, just wish theyd release it already since it was filmed last year!

You're right, "this point of view bit" HAS been done before but, personally, I like this sort of thing. Missed Vantage Point in the theaters in 2008, but bought the dvd sight-unseen. Saw 11:14 (2003) on tv not too long after Patrick Swayze was diagnosed. Hadn't seen anything of his since Dirty Dancing, but watched it because of the plot synopsis: "The events leading up to an 11:14 PM car crash, from five very different perspectives."

FWIW, There was also an episode of CSI that had 3 or 4 overlappping cases, told from the perspectives of the various investigators, & you overhear conversations from each in all the others. The story lines can get a bit muddled at times but I like things that makes me think.

Why do people always use Vantage point and not Rashomon, for Vantage point did it poorly, but there is a twist to spice things up and it is more thematic than narrative.

Why? Possibly because, like me, they've not yet had the privilege of seeing Rashomon.

That doesn't mean they don't know what it is about.

I didn't until someone made the comparison. Now I'd like to see it.

Rashomon is an excellent movie. Most of Akira Kurosawa's movies have been ripped off/remade in the US. Courage Under Fire (Denzel Washington/Meg Ryan) was also based off of Rashomon. Had an all-star cast as well. I believe there's a Simpson's episode as well. Clint Eastwood's man with no name is based on Yojimbo, right down to the tooth pick in his character's mouth. The Magnificent Seven is Seven Samurai, and finally Star Wars is The Hidden Fortress. Kurosawa was a master film maker, even was awesome with camera shots.

If you think this is getting old, what about the conventional chronological format!?

Seriously, the format is not what makes or breaks a film.

reply

"Vantage Point" certainly was not the first one to use it so it was already old when they did it. There is no reason to use it as a ground mark.
