We are lead to believe it was the shroud of Turin.

How did you miss it ? It was all over the movie from beginning to end. Talk about hammering it to the viewer.

The movie makes you think it is the Shroud and it literally probably is but the symbolism of the package and shroud is deeper. The package has symbolic meaning in this movie as is the character of Fuisha.
