Vera Farmiga's Hair

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the acting or storyline in this film but did anyone else absolutely HATE the hairstyle that they gave Farmiga?
I think that she is a beautiful woman but I found the short blonde dye job was not a good look for her. I thought it was horrible and it took me a good 15 minutes to stop focusing on it while I TRIED to watch this film!

Yes it was strange looking on her but I think the point was that by giving her blonde curly hair they were trying to make her look as non asian as possible (so that her korean boyfriend would exoticize her).

reply

Haha, yeah I had that same exact problem. And the outfits too... I almost thought it was supposed to take place in the late '80's.... The whole look was very upper Manhattan 1980's preppy.... After awhile, I let it go and focused on the movie, but I think it could have been a more modern look. It was like they were trying way too hard to make her be uptight and conservative, I suppose....

I thought it was supposed to take place in the 80's, also ... until I noticed the cell phones lol.

YES! It was the first thing I noticed and wondered why she had done that to her hair! She's so beautiful..and yet, she looked just like my Aunt Ruth..who was beautiful in her day, but that was in the 50's!

OMG - thank you! Her hair was absolutely awful in this movie. The blond color doesn't suit her at all, and the weird curly style, my god. It was horrific, especially when compared to how she normally wears her hair. It was actually really distracting.

Wow - when I started the movie the first thing I thought was "what's with the awful hair style?". Really not a good look at all.

i thought it was rather sweet

I agree. What really cracked me up though was her hair after she walked home in the rain. If you notice, when she's in bed with her husband, her hair is super straight, like it is naturally. I just thought that was funny.

OMgosh

I really liked the movie, but her poor hair and wardrobe were from another time like the 70's with a touch of 80's.

Why did they make her look so unappealing?

reply

Nothing much to add except that I, too, thought her hair was awful. However, once I got into the movie I found I no longer noticed it. I think that if this was the very first time I ever saw Vera Farmiga in a movie, I probably wouldn't have given it more than a moment's thought.
