How good is this compared to the first one?

Just wondering because I'd be interested in buying it!

I have not decided. I just watched it, and I was entertained, but with only Ripley and Shyanne from the first (and brief shots of Deaf Barry and Ruth), it felt a little lacking. There was no explanation of the remaining missing characters.
As to the story, it was okay, but the humor was better. Ripley was Ripley, but Shyanne's screen time was too brief, and she was a bit complain-y. It still had the choreographed singing, so that was good, but the songs did not match up as well.
All-in-all, I'd give it a 6-7. However, the BBC website had a bunch of reviews, and most people seemed to like it.
If you must know if Ripley comes out okay, and what choices he makes on his own, then you should watch it. If you want a true continuation of Blackpool, then this may leave you a bit unsatisfied.

I agree. If I had seen "Viva Blackpool" first, I don't think I'd have bothered with "Blackpool." It wasn't bad -- it definitely held my interest for the whole 87 minutes. But I would have preferred if it had said something about what happened to the other characters, especially Danny, Natalie and Carlisle, and Steve.

I bought a DVD set of "Blackpool" and "Viva Blackpool," so I have no real complaints about what I got for my money. "Blackpool" is great; "Viva" is not a bad followup.

I agree completely. It's nothing near as good as the series but it's entertaining enough. It's just David Morrissey doing a kind of cartoon version of Ripley. If you take it on it's own rather than connect it to the tv series then it's a good laugh but if you take it as a proper sequel then it's highly disappointing and actually ruins you whole perspective you had of the tv series itself.

Not as good. But still fun. And its got 1 out of 2 David's, so I'm still happy. Reminds me... I need it on DVD... Blackpool, the original, was fantastic... Tennant dancing...Tennant singing... *shivers* Ahhh it was goooooood. I do have a strange liking for tv shows/movies that break into song when they shouldn't lol. When it dont match the genre. But I love it. To bits. Helps that David is doing his real accent. And so wonderfully. 'nebody. I love it!

Considering this was written by the same writer as Blackpool, it was vastly inferior.

I cannot understand why there were absolutely no references to Danny, Steve, Carlisle, and Natalie amongst others.

Still enjoyable, but could have been so much better given the acting talent involved. Just lazy writing I guess.
