Does he honestly go back in time? Like, in a time machine?

Well? That would seriously ruin the movie.

I've seen Sandlot one and two and enjoyed both, but it would seriously, seriously ruin the series if the guy went back in a time machine or whatever. (Just going back in time is silly unless we're watching Back to the Future or something like that.)

I'd also like to know if they involve any dogs again.

he goes back in time for redemption and for a change of heart because he was selfish in the beginning and he agrees to help the sandlot kids play better to and they go to play in the towns all city champion ship. he joins the team but then he realized that he was on the rivals team which caused his career becauase they send him a scholarship to college to become a basbell player so he had to change places but then his friedn ryan speaks who hasnt spoken a word since his father dies and he gives tommy a reality slap that they grew friendship.

It was similar to Quantum Leap time travel, only without Al's annoying hologram. Adult Tommy gets knocked out and re-enters consciousness as a young version of himself. Then, like Sam, he tries to figure out what needs to be done before going back to "normal" life.

In movies, when a person travels through time in a machine, they emerge as the same age that they went into the machine. That wasn't the case in this movie.

This movie presents time travel as it was done in "Peggy Sue Got Married" or countless other movies where a conk on the head mysteriously sends a person back into a younger version of themselves. Later, another conk on the head brings them forward into their original time. That leaves the whole movie ambiguous as to whether it really happened or was just a dream.

And, the fact that some things in his future life changed for the better when he returned, doesn't mean that it still wasn't a dream. He could have been that good person all along and was just dreaming that he was a bad person and then went back in time and fixed his life.
