'They only have Love-Your-Cousin-Day' ...???

Sorry if it has been asked. There was this dialogue which went like, "He's from Indiana. They only have Love-Your-Cousin-Day."

I am not from USA, can anyone please explain this dialogue to me? Thank you :)

There is no "love your cousin day". They were picking on Topher Grace's character for being from Indiana, implying that people from there are incestuous. That happens a lot with people from the deep south and backwoods areas. I live in Louisiana, and I don't know of anyone that does that kind of thing! Lol! I'm sure there people out there in very rural areas that do and are inbred. But I don't know any. We get a lot of flack in southern states, La, Alabama, Mississippi, etc. People make "kissin' cousin" jokes and so on. But I can assure you, there is no such thing as "love your cousin day". His buddies were just joking around with him. Hope that helps and answers your question :)

It does answer my question. Thank you so much for clearing the confusion. I had a doubt that it was meant as a joke, but I wasn't sure...and I do have a certain idea (from movies) how the Southern States are somewhat conservative in some regard.

And you dont have to assure me. I love in South Asia where cousin marriages are quite common :D Although I am not a fan of them personally (medical reasons...health complications), but I have learned to respect the tradition. :)

Thank you once again :)

Im glad I was able to shed some light on the situation. And I actually learned something from reading your reply! I had no idea that it was a common thing where you live in South Asia! You learn something new everyday! Lol! And that's very open minded of you to respect that tradition. Im not a fan of it for the same reasons you are, with the medical reasons and health complications. But who am I to judge other cultures and their traditions. I'm not a very judgemental person, and I like learning new and interesting things about different cultures. :)
