Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel

Anyhow, despite its critics I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie.

But, Christ! It is evident they told Jamie Foxx to just sort of ad-lib around a bunch and just be funny...and that they would edit it into something coherent around the things he said.

You can see in the original script that his character, Kelvin, had a lot more serious lines with Kara, Jessica Biel's character. But it looks like almost all of that was re-scripted or was left on the editing room floor. He even had more lines with Kathy Bates' character...related to his dislike for Valentine's Day and how he had failed in his job to bring home some good love related stories.

Anyhow, all that consistent clowning around...even when he was supposed to be consoling Kara...really distracted from the plot of developing attraction between him and her.

She, on the other hand, really sold the chemistry aspect. I have to hand it to Jessica Biel. If they were forced by the needs of the genre to be the duo that does the heavy-lifting on the comedy end of this rom-com movie, then she really did manage to counter balance his detached joking by doing an excellent job of portraying a sad/lonely but busy woman becoming enamored with him.

Despite it's shortcomings this was a fun movie to watch. 
