This movie seemed similar to Lars VonTrier's movies

I didn't like it too much...

Right-o!
Contrived and boring.

reply

OK, maybe boring, but "contrived"? Are you sure you know what that means? The third act was a plot-free free fall. Certainly anything but contrived.

reply

Because no movie is contrived. It's not at all what movies are. They're pure and natural - like sunshine in a bottle!

now go away?!

reply

Different style, same subject matter. Trier is far more experimental, this film had far better acting though and a more Asian take on Christianity.

reply

Better done IMO

Lee seems actually to care about his characters, as opposed to the Dane.

reply

Eh? Yeah that's right: putting characters in excruciating situations and seeing how they deal with it, means he doesn't care at all.
Cripes - you people are a bunch of brainless, childish twits who seem to think film ought only to be American cliche.

reply

Yeah, it definitely reminded me of Breaking the Waves and Dogville, but still deeply embedded into Korean culture specifically. If you don't like Trier, I can see not liking this one either. I love Trier, so I loved Secret Sunshine.

The day Lars VonTrier makes a movie that good...
I mean seriously you can't compare those two directors

Why people like Von Trier I will never understand. His films just simply suck c**k. I've seen almost all of his films and I see no similarity between this film and his. I think this poster is just trying to "get the word out" about Trier.

You're far from alone there. I don't get the Von Trier appreciation either. One of the most pointless directors of modern times.
