Airplane outbreak scene is awesome

I like this scene a lot. I like how slowly it builds up to a complete chaos. If you think about it it’s like one of the worst places to be in during the zombie outbreak, where would you go? Maybe hide in the cargo bay if you can reach it. I probably would’ve fled to the bathroom first if nobody else would’ve occupied it first, but chances are very slim.

I like how they tried to barricade themselves from the rest of the passengers. Not a bad idea until their plan fell through. The look on that guy’s face when he dropped a suitcase attracting zombies, lol. I’d be @#$*ing bricks too.

what i don't get is how the guy turned on the airplane. at this point people are turning within seconds. how did that guy turn in the bathroom. is the virus now turning anyone who dies or just bitten? this part I didn't get.

I think that was an elevator, not a bathroom. We can assume he had somehow got into the galley area below deck, but who knows how.

reply

Agree. It was a service elevator. He got into the plane somehow, probably while it was sitting on the runway. Don't know if anyone will see this but does anyone know where the explosion happened when they were on the plane right after they left Speke's group?

reply

It is silly tho. Why would a crazed zombie somehow squeeze themselves into a cramped service elevator, which I imagine would also involve the closing of a door or safety shutter to actually move?

As for the explosion, by which I think you mean the distant nuclear blast, I think it was in the India/Pakistan area. That might fit in with the geography of the flight too as I seem to recall it was somewhere in the distance to the left of the plane.

I sort of remember a mention of such a strike in the book too, not that it's really relevant to the movie. It may have been a loose tribute to the book.

Thanks for the answer! Geez it's been a long time since I've read the book. I rewatched the take off from Israel, and as it was taking off you can see something (a flap?) open on the outside of the plane. I'm thinking that's how the zombie got on board. Thanks again I appreciate your response!

You're welcome

Glad to see you've also read the book, it was excellent right?

I know there was a lot of fuss about this movie being unrelated to the book but I'm ok with it, I think the book might be tough to translate to a movie - though it would be fun to see any attempt to do so.

I'm trying to re 'read' it at the moment (I lack focus lol) in audio form on youtube, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0ph2KusUN0-68J99xkJXCg/playlists if you're interested.

It was great! But it was unusual in that scene was so good, it had the effect making the end a little less exciting.

Hollywood knows to save the best for last in most action movies.

reply

Yes. That scene was awesome. There was really nothing they could do. Blowing it up and hoping to survive was the only option. Only pilots could survive behind closed doors.
