We have to stop IMDB from destroying itself.

Who cares, they've let these boards run wild for literally decades (e.g. American Psycho boards).

People will just find a better site for movie ratings.

It's a very sad day. It's practically become a habit for me to check out the message boards for a film once I've seen it since I signed up in 2004.

we have concluded that IMDb€™s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide.

I'd really like to know how they came up with this factoid, because I don't remember being part of any survey, and the IMDb boards have always been an overwhelmingly positive experience. I don't even mind the trolls or having to show the Interstellar's nitpickers the error of their ways every now and then ;) - there's nowhere else with such a large community of cinephiles to discuss explanations, theories, opinions, recommendations and trivia, especially for the more obscure films.

There was a comment on another thread about IMDd being like a museum, with the boards as interpretations by the pieces. It's very true - I could put on some avant garde silent film from the 50s and know I could find a few discussions here afterwards. Getting rid of all that is vandalism.

Some other portal like reddit will take it's place. Just don't know where or how permanent it will be.

I am really annoyed that they removed the message boards, but I am hopeful these boards will help. For me, 85% of the reason I went to IMDB was the boards. If the boards are no more, I can get the same info from Wiki. The boards are what made it a great resource, as strange as that sounds. The that you could watch a movie/TV show/etc, then get the info, then talk about it was invaluable. Without the capability to discuss it, IMDB becomes just a movie encyclopedia, only not as valuable.
Does anyone know if the boards continued for the Pro version?

We've done it ourselves. There is this old internet saying "Don't feed the troll"

But we do nowadays and it results in nothing good. IMDB is shooting themselves in the foot with this quite possible. From community going to little checking fact site.

You either die a respected forum, or live long enough to become a troll board.

They closed the boards due to Trump Derangement Syndrome.
