Meaning of title?

Cannot google this title to get a suggestion of title relevance - any ideas anyone?
I've seen the film, it is excellent IMHO and on a budget of only 300K GBP. Some writing and direction, Jan Dunn is someone to watch.

Err, wasn't it the name of the pigeon...the winning one.

Yes, Cloverfield is right, and Ruby was "Blue" in color.

When you send your pigeons off to a race. You have to fill in a race entry form. You have to put the ring number, sex (as cocks and hens are put into different baskets) and colour of the pigeon.

There are many different colours of racing pigeon. One being a "blue bar". The wings are grey with a tinge of blue. The bars are black. Or black with a tinge of grey or very dark blue.

No one in the UK who race pigeons say "blue bar". They simply use the word "blue". So if you have a blue bar pigeon. You just write in "blue" for the pigeon colour on the race entry form.

So Ruby was a blue bar pigeon. Hence "Ruby Blue".

Overall I enjoyed this film. It's not a masterpiece but a decent film. This would be a perfect film to be shown on Film4.

Thank you very much, nice to have a little more of the background.

I agree with your last sentence. It was a very engaging and tense film made on a very tight budget with a great opening song by KT Tunstall and cracking chemistry between the leads who both separately asked to be included in the cast. I could never put my finger on what was missing but something was.

My film society screened it and we had with us that evening, the Director Jan Dunn, much admired in the industry should have gone further by now in the opinions of some.

It's no problem at all.

She did a great job with a small budget of £350,000. Especially when you consider things like it starring Bob Hoskins and featured a song by KT Tunstall.

Bob Hoskins did carry the film a bit. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. She's definitely shown enough talent to warrant directing more films.

If Film4 or the The British Film Institute (BFI) watched Ruby Blue. Surely they would produce a Jan Dunn film? I would like to see what she could do with a bigger budget.

It's a real shame Bob Hoskins died. If Jan could have gotten Bob Hoskins to agree to make another film with her and she approached Film4 and the BFI. Surely they would have agreed to produce it?

Then you have the exposer of having your film shown on Film4.

Thank you for the information. I agree she warrants more support.
