Surprisingly good. The characters were over the top and somehow it worked. The ending worked the story worked. American History X is a good comparison but this one was more complete. A good story of war within communities.

liked it to, as mush as i liked "hero wanted", they both deserve to be watched by more people

very good acting by the sutherland, glover and the rest of the cast. the plot is a little too "movie redemption" for me but the direction and the realness of the setting and characters overcame that for me and it was never preachy. good movie.

The boxing scenes were poorly choreographed and badly filmed. The sodomy scene in jail was unnecessary and slightly gratuitous. The story line was pretentious twaddle, the finale in the ring was especially laughable.

I still enjoyed it.

Roomy is alive and well

Maybe, but ten years IS a long time.

Yeah, but the acting was superb. Glover is obviously a genius at his craft to pull this one off as well as he did. Sutherland was good too.

Please. If it had been a movie about two women in prison who'd developed an intimate relationship, the sex scene would have included full frontal nudity.

The prison sex scene in this movie was a tad shocking 'cause there was no real warning it was coming (though, when his cellmate gave him that lovingly made robe, I had a feeling there was more to their relationship; I just wasn't expecting to see it depicted like that afterwards), but it was hardly gratuitous. It added something to the character. Clearly, Donnie had some secrets his family never learned about. And if his brother had had any inkling what Donnie had done while he was in there, he'd have probably beaten him into a coma, too.

BTW, I agree with the OP. Very moving. I got a lump in throat when Charlie jumped into the ring.
