'And This Is My Beloved'

Having just watched this for the first time (and loved it!), I just wanted to know--did anyone else have the words for "And This Is My Beloved," from the musical Kismet, running through their head as the music played?

For those of you not up on Broadway musicals, Kismet used adaptations of Alexander Borodin melodies, with lyrics set to them, as songs. One song, "And This Is My Beloved", used part of the melody of the second string quartet--the music used in this short.

Interesting. I've never heard of Kismet. But now that I've heard the piece along with the cartoon, I am a bit intrigued.

I had the words for "And This is My Beloved" running through my head within seconds, although I am familiar with the song through Mario Lanza, who sang it operatically to perfection.

Yes, I recognized the melody of "And This is my Beloved" immediately. Other well known songs from "Kismet" which are based on Borodin themes are "Stranger in Paradise" and "Baubles, Bangles and Beads." Listen to the original cast recording from the 1950's (one of the joys of my childhood), and luxuriate in the magic created by Alfred Drake, Doretta Morrow, Richard Kiley, Joan Diener, et al. They just don't write 'em like that anymore!

Incidendly, I was very charmed and touched by "The Little Match Girl." It's always been a moving story, and Disney has done right by it. I hope that, having now been nominated for an Oscar, the short film will reach a wide audience.
