What makes this film so great is the lack of CGI

More horror directors should realise how aweful CGI is. Yea it might look hokey at times but its a lot scarier and a lot funner if the creatures at atleast tangible instead of some computer graphic that doesn't even look like its really there. CGI is ****.

Totally agree with you, I think it adds real character to the film. They may look a bit rubbery at times, but I would take the monsters in this film over CGI garbage like the sort in Van Helsing any day.

Agreed.

The thing is, CGI can be done right, but rarely is it EVER done right in horror movies. For some drama/action WWI period piece, it's almost always done right. Horror isn't taken as seriously, so you get very fake looking CGI effects. Monsters that are made from CGI usually look plastic and have no actual feeling of weight to them. I'm glad they gone with latex and old school effects! Horror should actually do this more often, cause the traditional effects are far more accepted, and taken WAY more seriously within the horror genre than CGI effects.

I appreciated the use of practical effects here.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!
