Reminds me of Evil Dead

Just saw the trailer and Evil Dead was the first thing that entered my mind.

reply

Absolutely not. I humbly ask you to remove this post, before more people see this and are fooled by your lies. The Evil Dead was a cinematic masterpiece, as were the next two films in the series. This film is on par with Zombie Strippers, another Robert Englund "Classic." The Evil Dead is nothing like Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, at all. You sir, are an uninformed charlatan, and need to see The Evil Dead again, if you think this film is at all similar.

Yeah it reminded me of The Evil Dead as well in certain spots.

reply

Yeah... uh... it reminded me of Evil Dead as well. And nobody said it was on par, just reminiscent. We'll compare the average rating to your apparent disdain and see who has more people on there side, the haters or the people who thought it was a fun movie.

reply

Well, Zombie Strippers was awesome... Not Evil Dead awesome, but awesome just the same.

Don't steal. The government hates the competition.

reply

exactly, Zombie Strippers was fun to watch

reply

it totally is a rip off on evil dead.

reply

The Zombie like creatures in Monster Slayer definitely resemble Deadites, but that's the only comparison I see in both movies. Well... and the theme of possession too I suppose... but regardless, I thought Monster Slayer was totally a fun movie. As good as Evil Dead? Of course not, but it was still a total blast from the past of the days of all the Evil Deads, Monster Squads, The Gates and so on... cheesmo 80's horror movies ya can't help but love, as long as you don't take them so serious.

reply

An 'uniformed charlatan'? Maybe you didn't see the same movie. The monsters in this film were clearly a throwback to the deadites. From the make up, to the way they moved, and even the camera shots on them. The main character reminded me much more of Army of Darkness Ash than Evil Dead. Well, at least not the first ED. Because that Ash was weak and frightened. Evil Dead 2 showed him having more nerve. Then AoD Ash was the cocky character we all love.

The film it self doesn't so much remind me of Evil Dead. But elements of it were obviouslly inspired by Sam Raimi's work. Even the scene where Jack goes to his van to get his tools, seemed very much like Ash in the tool shed. Or when he goes back into the school to face the monsters and it zooms in on his face, I was waiting for a "Yo She Bitch!"

Opinions are just that, and I can understand where not everyone would enjoy this movie. Yet, I read in another post where someone said it was like another lame Sci-Fi tv film. It is far from that. Sci-Fi's original movies are normally some of the worst out there. This film may not achieve the cult status of Evil Dead, but it is very enjoyable.

I had just heard this movie was horrible, so I went on that, because I love The Evil Dead, I was kinda just joking, sorry if I offended you or whatever.

There are things that go bump in the night, and we are the ones who bump back!

reply

Oh no offense taken. I just thought you were throwing criticism out there based on seeing it already, and couldnt see how you didn't see the similarities.

There are enough to make it very different, but enough to easily say it had to be influenced by Evil Dead.

I had heard it was horrible as well, but I had heard the same of Evil Dead too. That didn't stop me from watching either. I remember being about 10 years old watching Evil Dead for the first time and thinking I had found the Holy Grail of movies. lol

Dude next time watch the movie first before make any comments.

I thought it was exactly like the evil dead... except for the plot and that it was much better!

reply

I love the Evil Dead films, actually I love anything involving Bruce Campbell.

Jack Brooks DID have a few references though, the cover similar to Army of Darkness and near the end where he wraps duct tape around his arm where he was bit sorta reminded me of Ashs' metal hand in Army of Darkness.

Probably more of a homage to Evil Dead than a rip-off.

'Bruce Campbell is master of me!'

The moment I saw the trailer and the movie poster, The Evil Dead came to mind. I completely agree.

reply

Snap, just saw the trailer and it seemed like a modern evil dead rip off. I was expecting the main dude to pull out a chainsaw from his van and boom stick before going "Groovy!"

its no ripoff, but it was made in the same spirit as Army of Darkness. I really enjoyed it.

^ Yeah, Evil Dead, bubba ho-Tep and maybe some Tales From Crypt too, sounds like. Can't hardly wait!!!

reply

Actually it reminds me of Army of Darkness but I think that's what you meant.

reply

I dont think in the same of army of darkness. I would say evil dead 2. Because ash in evil dead 3 is completly confident and disregards every one as inferior. This dude is more like the first cowardly ash of evil dead 2.

It reminded me of Braindead.

reply

Fun... only reminds me Army of Darkness, Dead Alive and Slither , not evil Dead 1 or 2

the trailer seemed a lot more like Dead-Alive than the Evil Dead

reply

The Character Of Jack Brooks Is Obviously A Send-Up Of Ashley J. Williams From The Evil Dead Series.

reply

A "B-movie", comedy horror film about a reluctant (but natural) monster slayer...yeah that definitely reminds me of Evil Dead

Nobody said Monster Slayer was as good as The Evil Dead, just that it would remind you of it.

I thought the same thing, and will probably watch this movie, not expecting much...but will probably enjoy it for being the type of film that I enjoy.

Reminded me a touch of Evil Dead 2. Thought it was a fun film in a similar vein. Apart from the films that made him famous, I love Robert Englund as well - Zombie Strippers was funny!

If you liked Evil Dead/Army of Darkness you'll enjoy this movie too. Unless you're a die-hard Evil Dead fanboy who can't fathom the idea of any movie ever being compared with your love child, then you might not dig this too much.

reply

Since we're on the topic of movie similarities, the scene when JB smashes some dude's face in with a fire extinguisher is very similar to a scene form a French movie called Irreversible.
