Airborne Insignia?

The elderly medicine man wore a black stetson with a clearly visible Airborne Insignia attached to the front. It was so prominent that I thought it would be worked into the storyline, but never was. It appears to be a Parachutist Badge, which can be issued by Army, Air Force, Navy, or Marine Corps.

Was this just to illustrate that the medicine man had also served in the U.S. military, probably in World War II?

The actor who played Martin Two Moons (the medicine man) is Chief David Bald Eagle, who served with the 82nd Airborne and was present at Omaha Beach on D-Day.

My guess is that it's Chief Bald Eagle's own hat.

Makes sense; thank you.
