Series Plot Holes (spoilers)

I know there's probably a lot more but here's 2 I found.
1. The power of 3. We've never heard of it until this movie. Why didn't the power of 3 work in the 3 prior movies. Like in the first when Kalabar took the talisman and it took everyone working together to get it back. It isn't until Dylan joins the group they are able to defeat him. In the second movie the 3 could've opened the portal and taken away the grey spell by working together and no movie would've been made. You get the point...

2. Ethan with no powers. Ethan had no powers because of his dad in movie 3. Unless this is new it makes no sense and I don't think they explained it in the movie. How do the sinister sisters and Ethan have no powers because of their parents yet in movie 2 Kal still has his after what his dad did?

Like I said, there's probably more but those are the ones that stuck out to me.

1. Perhaps they didn't know it at the time. It's not like everything is known from the get-go. Revelations come about later on for a lot of things, like Aggie being the original ruler of Halloweentown!

2. Ethan renounced his. It wasn't taken from him. He decided to be come mortal.

The biggest plot hole for me is Marnie's age. In the first movie she's thirteen. Here, she's eighteen. This movie is set one year after the third movie and that movie is set in the year following the second movie. Then you have the second movie set two years after the first movie. That only puts a four year gap between Part 1 and this movie! Marnie should have been seventeen here. It would have certainly helped if the second movie was set THREE years later after the first movie rather than two as it was made three years later. I wonder why they didn't go with real time and it certainly would have had the gap between the first movie and the fourth movie work fine.

Hell, but I wish they followed real time this time around and had the movie be set EIGHT years after the first. We'll have Marnie at age twenty-one and had spent time at a regular college for a couple years, but dropped out and her mother is pushing her to go back and that's when she decides to attend college in Halloweentown. Plus it provides five year gap with the last movie and it can provide enough time for us to picture that the character could have went from looking like Kimberly J. Brown to then looking like Sara Paxton. It's kind of hard to see that when the movies are a year apart and with recastings you're basically ignoring the face of the original actor and have to look at the previous material as though the new actor has been around during that time. Basically with the way things are now, when watching Part 4, we'd have to look at Part 1-3 with Marnie having Sara's face rather than Kimberly's. With a bigger gap between H3 and H4, we can picture Marnie still looking like Kimberly and then for H4, we can buy better that Marnie slowly exercised and lost some weight to end up looking like Sara over the course of five years rather than one year.

I would say the bigger time issue was between the second and third movie, not the third and this one. In High she states that she is a senior and that the "exchange student" program is her senior project.

And yea Ethan renounced his powers, they weren't taken. The Sinister Sisters were in league with the Dominion so were punished by losing their powers. And Kal wasn't known to be Kalabar's son so explains why he didn't lose his. He also wasn't actively helping Kalabar so even if it was known he was his son by people he hadn't done anything wrong at that point to have them taken.

I'm not saying there is a time issue between the third movie and this movie. I'm saying Marnie should have been a year younger here (I mistakenly put nineteen instead of seventeen and went to fix that) since you have a four year gap between this movie and Part 1. The gap between the first two movies is off. It should have followed real time. Then the gap between two and three is off because the production gap is three years and while everyone else doesn't look all that older you can believe it's one year later, Sophie surely looks three years older since Emily Roeske was just a child. The events of Part 3 was better off being the plot of this movie since the third one didn't even have them go into Halloweentown anyway. Perhaps the plots of 3 and 4 could have merged so you have Sophie attending high school in the real world and trying to bring monsters there while Dylan and Marnie attended college in Halloweentown and dealing with the dominions. But then the movie would have been too long so I'm not sure how they could have worked that out.
