Movies like this need to be seem authentic to work well. In legitimate Germany, they wouldn't be talking and writing in English.
Mainstream audiences in America can handle subtitles (i.e. Passion of the Christ, City of God, Bollywood flicks).
Disagree. There are exceptions, but by and large subtitles means a drastic cut in viewership in the U.S. You miss so much of what's going on on the screen when you're reading what's at the bottom. I want to watch a movie, not read it. Viewers understand that they don't speak English in Germany.

I don't particularly like reading subtitles. If this film was in German with subtitles, I would have skipped it. Because it was in English, I was willing to give it a go.
People like me are the reason it was in English. The amount of people who will 'take a chance' on the film given it's in English is greater than the amount of audience the film will lose by people refusing to see it by virtue of the fact it's NOT in German.
If that makes any sense at all.
