Too syrupy

This movie had a nice concept (i.e. little girl turns to reading during war), and the characters were well-acted. But oh my -- this movie was too syrupy (as in cloyingly sweet or sentimental).

I almost got sick at some parts.

I could not watch more than 15 minutes of this. Ghastly movie.

I liked the movie, but I tend to agree. I really think it could have done without Death's narration.
