Apple logo

ugh..

Absolutely

Worst, most distasteful product placement ever! I couldn't believe that at the emotional climax of this great movie we see a damned Apple logo and product. How could this be allowed? The sighting of this logo dragged me completely out of the final heartfelt moments of this movie and marred it for me. Why didn't they place a bottle of Coke and a Big Mac there while they were at it? A touch of sensitivity for the emotional impact of certain scenes would be greatly appreciated. A big fat zero from me for Apple's complete lack of tact.

I agree that it seemed like tacky product placement. After thinking about it for a while though, I wonder if they were using it to let the viewer know that it was now present day?

reply

I'm sure that the intention was product placement pretending it is to show us that we are now watching modern times, but it was just disturbingly transparent. It's even more annoying because the rest of the film was so great.

A laptop without a visible brand would perfectly make the same point across without being distracting.

reply

What a shame you thought that and were dragged out of the experience. It didn't have that affect on me. :)

CDEGFEDCC. (Shhh!)

My old laptop has a big Dell logo on it, my new one has a big HP one. Better that than the stupid pear shaped one I see on some television shows because it's NOT an Apple.

Just the monitor would have been enough.
I don't mean to impose, but I am the Ocean.

reply

Exactly, couldn't have said it better!

It's the production company which pretty much decides where the product placement goes. Your complaint should lie more with the producers and director, than Apple.

But it was obvious.

Isn't the Mac desktop the preferred tool of most successful creative authors? It furthers the implication that Liesel had a stellar writing career.

No, it's preferred by many graphic artists, but there's no reason an author would prefer it. I make a living as an author, and do most of my work on a PC. I have a MacBook Air, which I write on when I'm out and about, but I didn't buy it because it was a great writing tool.

For those who are bothered by this, it seems to me you're being overly sensitive. And no, it didn't fill half the screen. I didn't even notice it, and had to go back and check after reading this.

reply

It was very effective. You are talking about it so that worked out for them and they showed how much time had past!

reply

NO. It hasn't worked. We are intelligent people and we can make a difference. It was not a positive experience. Brands always strive for positive experiences. And if somebody, as said before in this thread, places A Big Mac and a Coke near to an Apple product, that is hardly what the marketing division of Apple would call a positive product placement!

reply

Talking doesnt make me get one

reply

Yeah it's a bit tactful but if you look at the other side of it it shows the fact that Liesel lived until recently.

reply

They didn't use a Macbook because we would assume she'd stolen it.

reply

Touché.

reply

HA!

reply

If they wanted to show present we should see kindle and L using torrents to download books.

reply

possibly the worst product placement ever
