am i crazy ?

This movie sucks, how can so many people love this ????
Is it the movie cast who is writing ?? lol its on my top 20 worst movies ever

reply

Maybe discuss it with the other once-only imdb posters here? Or are they you as well?

reply

And why would that be because it isn't schlok fest with blood and gore flying around everywhere- have you ever heard of Alfred Hitchcock or Stephen Speilberg? Both these great thriller directors agree- its tension and what you don't see not about a body count and buckets of blood!

I thought it was pretty good. Different and low budget but defied horror convention. Good on these Aussies for doing something different. Here's hoping we see more risk takers to come out of Australia, sick to death of the crime capers and quirky comedies. Love to see the cast of Secret Life of *beep* in this tree.

reply

I did not like the movie either. Gave it a 5/10. Let me explain why very briefly.

To start, it was super cheesy. Dialogue was pretty lame [hence they were on the tree the whole time, not much Dialogue can be produced at this sort of situation but still, it was boring], and the story is very basic. Nothing about this movie captivated me.

Also, at situations like these, you would think that "humans" would figure out that the boat is the only way to getting back home, yet many stupid, un-imaginable ideas, were being suggested by other two cast members...move from one tree to another, where the heck is that going to lead you? no where. Then suggesting to swim these 150 meters in water to reach the land? they were too darn scared to swim to the boat which was not even 10 meters away, I mean how dumb can someone be?

I am going to stop here. I can go on and on about how ridiculous this movie was. Or rather, how ridiculous the ideas were.

reply

Try not falling asleep during the next movie you criticise. Had they not been on a submerged island the tree to tree idea would have led them to higher ground, but instead it led to another part of the river. Bummer. The 150m swim was not a suggestion. They pointed out it was a bad option and so the only alternative was the boat. So they may have been dumb, but if so they were thinking just as you do.

reply

This was a cool movie . Well made and it told the story well,it was no epic but it was worth watching.
Not all movies have to have wall to wall gore or convolouted storylines.
All in all a well made and told little movie judge it for what it is not what it isn't

reply

yes certainly a great film. Even better than ROGUE. Which was pretty dissapointing. ROGUE cost $30 million to make.. BLACKWATER $1 million. Blackwater came out the best.

reply

Rogue is more of a pop corn flick. Entertainment horror.

Black Water relies much more on mood instead of action.

I don't think there's anything wrong with either approach but they make a poor comparison, despite featuring crocs.

Sometimes you feel like laying back and watching two detectives blast *beep* up (Lethal Weapon) and sometimes, you watch two detectives caught in a very different genre (Se7en).

reply

Yes you are - maybe you forgot that the boat was the reason that they where in that situation in the first place .. the croc had easily overturned it.
I think many people in that situation (myself included) would have thought twice about getting back in that boat. Fear makes the mind think in an irrational way. I'm talking from experience.
This has got to be one of the most exciting and edge of your seat debuts of any new film maker since Spielberg's Duel or the superb Spanish chiller Them by David Moreau & Xavier Palud . Can't wait to see the director's David Nerlich and
Andrew Traucki's next movie.

reply

I love how people get offended when somebody states a negative opinion about a movie. They get so defensive of the film like everybody has to love it.

reply

The trees were an attempt to see how close they could get to land, making for a short swim across if possible. Better to know the options than risk your life where not necessary.

The croc was in the same 100-foot area for a massive amount of time, and they had no idea where it was. Those things move fast in the water. Plus, the boat was STUCK where it was. Anyone who went out would have to go to the boat, figure out what was wrong, solve that, and flip it over/drain it. I don't know if you have ever had to flip a boat, but in water that deep, it normally takes 2 people at least 1.5 minutes to do that (the air creates a vaccuum). Not to mention that the croc could tip it in an instant.

If it was an obvious solution to swim to the boat, why did someone die doing it?

Not to mention, the croc's actions were very realistic. They often stay around the same areas for a long time, put their food on specific plots of land, and use the barrel-roll technique to try and disable a victim, or even break it's neck. It was by far the most realistic crocadile movie I have ever seen.

(SPOILERS)
'The crocs actions were very realistic'?? You must have watched the wrong movie. That crocodile was hilarious, it killed a man and then was content to let the body float around so another crocodile could have an easy meal. At one point when the two women were wading through the water it popped up as if to say 'Hello ladies and where might you be going?', standing there looking at the two until they ran and then it was delighted to get to chase them. When the blonde haired woman ran when faced with the croc at its feeding ground it went the other way to 'cut her off'. It was as if the crocodile was supposed to be possessed by the devil himself. Pathetic, I was really looking forward to a realistic film about survival in a horrific situation. It started off decent enough too but gradually descended into a farce.

reply

I have had a boat flip over in the water before and two young girls were able to pull it to shore with just a rope. We didn't have a man or trees we could use for leverage. I watch a lot of horror movies and this was boring, didn't really care if the people lived or died. At one point I did root for the croc to hopefully end the movie. I can cry at a commercial and this didn't move me at all. Everyone has different tastes so we can have different opinions. Gonna watch Rogue to see if it at least has something to offer.

Sorry but last time I checked neither of those were directed by one Stephen Speilberg.

Then you have apparently never checked. Because both of those movies were directed by Spielberg. Or are you just trying to be funny because the i and e were reversed in the poster's spelling?

I was about to say the same thing

uh... yes you are crazy. ever heard of Jurassic Park? or Jaws?!!!! just to name 2.

reply

Wow you've certainly shown him, what with your incredible movie knowledge. I mean you've clearly heard of Hitchcock AND Speilberg...bravo. He just said that he didn't like the film, which after just watching myself I can't fault him for. No need to get those panties all bunched up. Maybe he didn't like it because of the hilarious croc who liked to toy with it's victims like a deranged serial killer or just the fact it was a plainly average movie.

Yeah, how dare they make a movie devoid of a huge budget, A-list cast that can't act, and loads of CGI effects! Bastards!

reply

My only gripe with this film was that Michael Madsen didn't reprise his role as Croc Hawkins from the film Croc.

"I'm Croc Hawkins, I'm here to catch the croc."

He'd have shown that croc what's what. And he would have done it while squinting, in a gravely voice.

reply

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, now, you wanna talk about a bad movie! I was so surprised when I saw Madsen pop up in that one...

reply

This movie was amazing: ) Great stroy telling, by far the croc movie yet. I put its genious up there with how Steven Spielberg directed Jaws. I'm a special effects artist and a film makers myself, and I was blown away at how practical they composited the live crocs with the film footage: ) Amazing.

reply

Exactly! I agree completely. I happened to watch Rogue right before this and the CGI croc was terrible. I think it's interesting that the special effects people from both movies did their research at Darwin Crocodile Farm and they went in such different directions.
Black Water reminded me of Open Water you should check it out if you haven't already seen it.

Crazy? I don't know. But you're certainly someone who don't know what's good. This film had enough thrills and suspense to fill that croc's belly. Best film revolving around crocs/gators i've ever seen, by far.

well its this thing about movies with crocs in it they usually suk big time dunno why but this one was full of flaws about crocs and their behavior i'll name some
1. when Grace got taken by her leg croc did somethin called a Death-roll used for tearing chucks of flesh of a prey or to kill it, the way the bite marks were shown when she made it back on the tree namely sideways would cause her leg to break and eventually simple torn off. to bloody and messy i guess.
2. in the stormy night(superb filmed btw using the lightning) adam's body was eaten comepletly wrong since it got bitten in pieces and crewed in my previous flaw i mention the Death-roll to tear of flesh that he coulda use cuz 1 they cant bite crucks outta a prey cuz croc only have pointy teeth to hold the prey firmly no cutting teath or molars so they can chew ( gee this is told in about 99% of all documentaries about croc's)

and a couple more but minor ones like crocs dont eat that much etcetcetc
but then again most croc movies have them but the story was ok the filming was ok
reminded me like most people about Jaws lol

reply

Everyone's an expert...

In the story of Val Plumwood, on which this movie is partly based, the croc did death roll her but also did let her go - twice. She was very badly injured but staggered away with no limbs broken.

I don't know that the croc didnt spin whilst chomping on Adam in the movie, it just wasn't shown - we only got a glimpse.

reply

1980's alligator was better,

but no hate towards the movie. Nothings perfect and compared to some of the nonesense sci fi plays like blood surf and other rediculous movies, It wasnt horrid.

I'll have to watch it again though.

reply

No, you are not crazy, this movie actually did suck. It's another movie I looked forward to seeing based on IMDB reviews.

I am a big fan of horror/suspense movies, but this was horrible. I know this was low budget, but the croc looked like a fake head popping out of the water and then going slowly back in.

There is nothing about this movie that is good. If you are a big fan of boredom, watch it, if you like to waste money, rent it or buy it.

I am assuming that the positive reviews for this movie are coming from people associated with making this mess.

reply

Right. The biggest problem with the film was that a real croc looked fake to this guy.

reply

@willy willy, did you have anything to do with the production of Black Water?

reply

"I am assuming that the positive reviews for this movie are coming from people associated with making this mess."

I had nothing whatsoever to do with it, and I loved it. VERY entertaining, much better than I was expecting.

reply

That was the most realist croc I've seen. You are kidding me right?
