could kyon be like haruhi?

just something i was thinking of earlier is it possible kyon is another god like entity who perhaps also has some control in the universe as well as haruhi it may explain why he is the only one who doesnt always do as she wants and occasionally gets her to stop what she is doing (also haruhi feels a need to get rid of kyon in the last episode in order to do what she wants with mikuru) his desire for a normal life could affect the universe which could be why there arent aliens, espers and time travelers everywhere in plane sight as haruhi wishes (obviously some got through but apart from kyon they havent gone around telling everyone)

Far as I know, a LARGE contingent of Haruhi fans believe that's the case. Going by that theory, Kyon created a harem for himself while avoiding any responsibilities for being the real protagonist of his own show.

I don't like to see it that way - paints him in a negative light - but to each their own. All of us have our own theories about the shows we like and they should be regarded without scorn. For one I believe Mikuru is Haruhi and Kyon's future daughter with no other proof than the moles and how her "parents" treat her. A future light novel might shoot my theory down, but until then it's canon to me.

interesting theory but mikuru does seem to have romantic feelings for kyon so that could get a bit dodgy but who knows you could be right

Ickier things we've seen in more mainstream anime. But it's all a pipe dream anyway and, most likely, will never be either ratified or denied.

that is obviously the case. In the beggining of the first or second episode he say he wished aliens and espers and mutant wer real but had to live with the fact that there not. Haruhi actually believes in aliens and mutants. they have the same interests, and haruhi can probably see that.

reply

Actually Haruhi does not really believe that aliens and mutants are there, right? Didn't Nagato tell Kyon that when she explains everything to him, and that's why she knows nothing about them or why they don't make themselves heard. I don't think Kyon has any supernatural powers, but he does have some power over Haruhi, it is clear that she does love him, I don't think there is much doubt about that (judging from the anime alone since I havn't read any of the novels yet) and that is why he gets his will through, besides if he did have the same powers as Haruhi does the final episode (airing order) makes no sense at all.

Edit: Excuse me of course that was Koizumi telling Kyon about Haruhi and not Nagato.

I'm beginning to think that Kyon is behind everything that's happened. Haruhi is his creation in a way... All her abilities, and her desire to have an exciting life with aliens, time travelers, and espers, all of it stems from Kyon's subconscious. I think he has a deep desire to be normal so he can't consciously face what's really going on.

Witty closing remarks have been replaced by massive head trauma and severe hemorrhaging.

I don't think there would be many fans of the show that haven't at least CONSIDERED the possibility. I certainly have. Of course there are several variation on this theory. In some he and Haruhi are both gods, some say he is the only god, some say he WAS the god but pass on his powers to Haruhi and there are other theories that would be spoilers since they are based on the light novels.

On the pro side:
It might explain more fully why Haruhi might not be fully aware of her powers.

It wraps up some of "plot holes" (if you view them that way) in The Disapperance of Haruhi (I won't go into details but I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't read it).

It would explain all of big coincidences just as well as Haruhi being a god.

It would explain why most of the really exciting stuff actually happens to him and not Haruhi.

On the con side:

It raises a lot of questions and leads to possible plot holes.

YOu would think his subconscious would create a reality where he gets with Mikuru or any of the other girls he finds cute.

SO I don't really know. In way it would almost be disappointing if it is true because it means the twist in the end is too easy to guess. I have an alternative theory that he might have some sort of power but it is more subtle than reality bending. I'm not going to go into it though.

No, because just like they keep saying about Haruhi, the world still obeys the rules that he believes in & he doesn't believe that he gets the girl.

My thought on it is that Kyon is the "normal person" in this weird set-up. The fish out of water who we as an audience are supposed to relate to since the other characters are so weird (initially anyway), hence why all 3 of the other SOS brigade can confide their secrets to him.

But due to his connection to Haruhi, he does have some weight as well, since he can indirectly influence her. For instance, notice at first how she's a loner and doesn't give a care in the world for anything initially, and people understandably avoid her as a result?

Then he talks to her about her quirks, and treats her more or less like a normal person, and when he gives her the idea to form her own group, she suddenly starts springing to life and becomes more excited about events going on. And then when the world was nearly destroyed because she got jealous when Mikuru and Kyon seemed to be getting a little too friendly with each other (Melancholy VI), like Koizumi said, he was the only other person there.

SPOILERS -YOU`VE BEEN WARNED!
Just watched 'The Melancholy...', followed by 'TMOHaruhi-chanSuzumiya' shorts, & left 'The Disappearance...' for a week or so until I had 2hr43min (!) to myself for sure = wow.
Trying to avoid spoilers in order to give an example is difficult, but the same thought that started this thread was bubbling under for a while with me but 'light-bulb-over-head" in the "Yuki...it means 'snow', doesn`t it?" scene.
After all, Kyon ends up at the exact point in space/time that Haruhi develops her ability, & he KNOWS it stems from the Tanabata night confluence, so maybe HIS subconscious is responsible...
Incidentally, the Endless Eight was the nastiest bit of scripting I`ve ever had to view, but it works in that we the viewers end up feeling just as trapped as the onscreen characters, & 'Disappearance' was quite simply the best piece of animation I`ve ever seen since The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

I sometimes thought about that AND the possibility of Kyon's sister being like Haruhi too.
