Hmm.. lol!

Never before did I come across a show where you can be so disgusted by an episode and surprisingly fascinated by the very next one.

I mean, I really thought that episode 6 of this anime (the one with the ninjas..) is pure rubbish. Plain idiotic plot and screenplay.

Then episode 7 follows (SPOILER: the one with the "selenite", the girl who was born on the Moon), and even I found it to be profound.
I liked the episode's end very much. The episode as a whole did feel like good sci-fi, the one with human feelings involved.

Well, it's been a while since I last saw these episodes, so I may be overdoing a bit with my criticisms. :)

I couldn't agree with you more. I was loving the series up till that point. Now that I look back at it, that episode really stands out from basically EVERY other episode as being the only one I didn't enjoy.

I think we're the green thingy!

I must admit the ninja episode is one of my favourites. It's much better written than the previous episode (the one where the family is going to commit suicide - including killing their own daughter - and where a pickpocket decides to graduate to kidnapping and attempted murder when he's simply approached by a man in uniform [???]).

The ninja episode certainly pushes the slapstick humour throttle to the max, but there are also some good scenes showing the unemployment problem and the fact that a lot of the moon is a slum. In fact, a lot of the ninja nonsense can be explained by the fact that the people perpetrating it are quite literally bored out of their minds due to being stuck on the moon without a steady job. There's also a nice story concerning Hachimaki's friendship with a young girl he meets on the Moon, and there are the tragic scenes with the veteran astronaut. While there's a lot of nonsense that goes on, the episode is actually quite nicely written and there's a lot of depth in it beyond the main plot.

Personally, I thought they pushed the 'Hachimaki is a loony' idea a bit too far in some of the later episodes. I mean the poor guy completely loses his mind and I just couldn't buy the idea that any woman in her right mind would be able to stay interested in a guy who, for all intents and purposes, has gone psycho. If they had toned that down a bit I think the show would have been a bit better.

I think I have to agree with you on both accounts. The episode in question and Hachi's development towards the end. I liked every bit of reference towards Naruto (on the funny side) and Evangelion (on the deeper side) but his ego confrontations felt a bit much for me I'm afraid..

The Past is an illusion. It is indeterminate and probabilistic.
