This show truly deserves more attention. A smart persons anime.

I do not like anime, at all. I find many Japanense anime very cliche and stereotypical of other Japanese shows. While it is not totally exempt from those stereotypes it manages them amazingly well without alienating western audiences. Not to mention it has some of the best english voice casting, ever. However the true core of this is just the astonishing attention to detail, not only in the art direction itself but the dialogue and the science. The series also helps you discover the ethical, political and moral complications with advanced space travel and technology which no show, anime or otherwise has ever touched upon.

It's truly a show of ahead of its time and I'm surprised the IMDB forum boards for Planetes isn't lit up like a Christmas tree.

I really like the fact, the it has a lot of philosophical issues andthat it's just a pleasure. I think that's one of the key of the best animes around that makes you think, and you can establish a bond between the character and you. Better than other trendy animes.

But, I don't know, if those conflicts makes you smart or dumb.
