Doesn't anyone find this pretentious and not that funny?

I just happened to flip on IFC,and this was on(it's listed as a movie, but it obviously isn't)and it struck me right off the bat as pretentious, especially Laura Kightlinger, just trying so hard for that neurotic,self-deprecating Jewish humour(can I say that without being accused of anti-semitism?).The show comes off as a bad "Curb Your Enthusiasm",or watered down Fran Leibowitz.Just thought I'd get my two bits in!

Laura is close with her family and is well-respected amongst her peers.

I see Jackie Woodman as more like HBO's The Larry Sanders Show from the 1990s, without the behind-the-scenes talk show theme.

Where else are we going to see this unique brand of humor. Kudos to IFC.

That one killed. I love this show. Humor isn't as simple as good or bad IMO. You identify or you don't is all.

I couldn't agree more with the people that have already answered you. If it's not to your comedic taste, that's fine, but how can you call a show SO self-deprecating (The MINOR Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman) "pretentious" confounds me. In "We're Number Two!" another character even calls Jackie an "old loser". And ya know what? She's right! To an extent, anyway. Now, if JW were a truly great writer, and a really great human being, THEN it could possibly be seen as being pretentious. Maybe. But, a show that busts as many balls as this one does is as UNpretentious as they come.

You want to see an example of pretentious, watch "24".

If I were Jackie I would throw a cup of pencils at you. ;-)
