Probably a good film for Donnie Darko fans

I actually sat through the whole movie, and was waiting in good faith in case there was going to be some kind of explanation. There isn't really one. So my take on it is that -probably Gina is not human, and neither is Stephan or her forest friends. Her only real human friend is Jennifer-whom she kills by giving her some kind of potion that allows her to see what Gina sees.
Gina has some task to save the world, and she and her forest friends are some kind of plant-life alien family-except that the forest friends decided to live in exile and stay hidden.
Those cut scenes with the creatures in the sun parallel their journey to save everyone I guess. I mostly enjoyed the beautifully shot scenes, the simplicity of the style and scenery, and maybe some of the music. The actresses were also very pretty in a quirky innocent way. If you like this, then you will like the Donnie Darko 2 movie about his sister Samantha-which I thought was okay.
Anyone got any ideas?

I totally agree with you and did the same thing...sat through in good faith. I rarely turn off a movie before it's over because I feel someone worked hard to make this and I should give it a full chance. some movies make a real turn around in the third act. clearly gina and her friends were not human and the world was in danger, beyond that I guess it open to interpretation. I agree there was some interesting shots but ultimately the characters were not interesting enough to care about and the story not compelling enough to really care about figuring out. Comparing this movie to "Donnie Darko" is a huge compliment to this film and a bit of an insult to DD, as it was far superior. "S. Darko" I though was crap, so it's a better comparison there I think. Too bad as I thought it had potential.

well I'm a Darko fan and I don't like this. i like the idea but not the execution I agree with your explanation about Jennifer being her only real Human friend.
