I liked it, and I just bought it today. Its funny, because Jack changes his story so much from the truth.

shareEhh, not necessarily. Look at the X-Men 3 game. The game had the voices of 5 mainstream actors from the first 2 movies. And the gameplay was horrible. VO's don't necessarily make a game. It's the gameplay, graphical abilities, controls, camera angles, amongst others.
After playing the POTC game for the majority of the evening..I wouldn't buy this game. It's a good rental for if you're really hardcore into the story of POTC. Depp does EXCELLENT VO's and the camera angles rock...but that's about it. The gameplay's disasterously repetitive, the enemy/ally AI is atrocious and can be counted on to mess up an attack combo at the last minute(IE: I had locked sabers with a pirate and was about to deliver a knee shot, when suddenly Will Turner came in inexplicably and just attacked, throwing the fight all off.). Also notable is the puzzling lack of strength in the allied AI force. Early on in the game, I finished off a pack of 5 pirates, and watched for 3 minutes. 3 whole minutes...as Will battled with ONE pirate. Not too good. One good(and bad, depending)thing is the fact that each level affords you 4 lives to resurrect with. It doesn't really give you the whole "pirate's life of living on the edge of the seat" feeling where life and death is one sword swing away. Granted, those 4 chances are good for kids who are learning..but to seasoned gamers, it's too forgiving. The upgrading function is cool, however. Jack and Will earn their gold separately, and can spend separately as well.
Morrowind players will note very similar graphics and the like due to Bethesda Software's hand in the game- and the lag of the framerates as well. For instance, when Jack or Will go to open chests, the framerate drops horribly to show Jack moving once for each buttonstroke. In a game that's being published on the cusp of the next gen systems, this isn't good. They should really be pushing the PS2 now to make people see how good it is and make them want to see the next big thing with the PS3, especially with other games like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Tomb Raider: Legend, Guitar Hero and others showing just how good the PS2's engine really is. It would really have done good if the devs for this game would have taken a play out of EA Games's playbook and did what EA did with Superman Returns: The Game- pushed the game back until the DVD's release.
All in all...it's good for a laugh or two- but don't buy it, kids. Rent it. That's about all you'll need to beat it and be satisfied.

Oh I fully agree. I was simply comparing them in the VO talent. Both had major starpower, and both had sub-par gameplay. Obviously, X3's gameplay was so freakin' atrocious that it's better left unsaid. *shakes head*
shareI'm not a big video game player. I'm perfectly satisfied with playing Mario on Nintendo 64, my brother's gameboy from the 80's, the Sims, and the Sims 2. So, do you think it would still be a bad idea for me to buy it? Since, I don't really care about what the game is really like, just as long as I have something to keep me busy...

I think they wantted to insure they had a game for non hand held systems, since POTC: Dead man's Chest only came out on handhelds (PSP, Nitendo DS, etc)While the game may not be perfect, pushing back a release date on a movie game can be suicide. I'm a manager at Gamestop and I can tell you that the sales for Superman Returns will suck because it got pushed back from the release date. It may still do well if the game is spectacular, but more than half of the people who put money down on the game as a reserve have already taken thier money and changed it to a different game. It can be really tough when you are putting out a movie based title, sometimes you do end up with things like X-men 3 (Jeez please stay away from this game it will make your system rot...blech!) From what I hear POTC: Dead man's Chest is actually a really fun game, now I have not personally played as I do not own a handheld, but we do get a lot of feed back about the games we sell. I think that in regards to the Legend of Jack Sparrow, Disney just didn't want to miss out on the possible money it could be making for non handheld platforms so they stuck a game together pretty quickly and released it at the same time as Dead MAn's Chest. Oh as a little p.s. Legend of Jack Sparrow only released on the PS2 not the Xbox, Ironically enough not many Disney games release on the Xbox, maybe they have licsensing issue with Microsoft?

Yeah. I never played POTC: DMC, so I honestly cannot say anything about that. As for Superman Returns..I think it'll do better than a lot will think because like the Batman video game franchise..we're salivating for a GOOD Superman game. And if EA does what they've promised with it..I really think it will do good. Just from the small videos they've given us, it already looks so much better than any other Superman game. I've got faith in EA for this one.
