the #8

After watching the movie i relized the #8 has been in the earnhardt family for over 50 years and teresa has been there for 25 years, somethings wrong with that picture.

You got that right. She has no right to screw up a legacy that was made way before she was even thought of. How selfish.

I know where you're coming from, and I agree, because Dale got the 8 from Billy Stavola so he could put it on Junior's car. Technically, though, it still belongs to Dale. It's up to Junior now to fully emerge from the shadow and finally be his very own man.
Let's not get too worried about him not being in #8; because one day, he'll get in the #3, and what a day that'll be.

A man's got to know his limitations.

As cool as it would be to see Jr. in the #3 car - I don't think it will ever happen. Didn't they retire the number after Sr. died?

reply

Nope, it's just out of use. Richard Childress still retains the rights to the number, just like how Robert Yates has a claim on the #28. Richard once said only an Earnhardt would race the #3 for him, and Dale Jr has said before he would like to drive the #3 later in his career. Of course, this is all stuff that might happen 8 or 10 years from now, and it may not ever occur. Then again, it just may.

A man's got to know his limitations.

reply

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks!!! I wonder why Jr. doesn't go for it now. That would be so awesome.

reply

Jr said he wants a chace to to make a history all his own and out of the shadow of his father as much as possible and that he will not get in the 3 till he has done that.

This is ridiculous. The Earnhardts don't own the #8. Nobody in NASCAR owns any number. Stavola used that number for over a decade before DEI even existed. Besides, it's not the number that matters. Look at David Pearson. He won championships driving the #6 and the #17, but he's probably best known for driving the #21. Cale Yarborough also drove the #21, won most of his championships driving the #11 car, and finished his career in the #29, after selling the rights to #28 to Robert Yates. It makes no difference. A number is just a number. It's the driver that matters.
