My guess is, and the only saving grace of this film, was that all the 'flashbacks' were created in the other persons mind.
Meaning, when the mom and the gunman saw each other, they quickly noticed little things, and had created a back-story.
So, when the mom saw the gunman's 'Lock it' storage jacket, bloody eye, and bottle of pills, she played in her mind what his life was like: He needed money because of his fathers ailment, was down on his luck, got beat up doing something to get himself cleared of his debts.
When the gunman saw the mon in her maid uniform, with her kids goofy boots, he made up her story: She was a single mom trying to work hard to help her less-than-normal son.
My guess is...as far as the husband goes...either the gunman thought she was married at one point, separated at another...I'm thikning maybe 'he' couldnt make up his mind about 'her' life, in the way he was creating her story.
Know what i mean?
Just my take on it.
It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.
