Same here, rather a sad movie all in all, very well played.

I agree, terrific film, but then I always think French films have more to get your teeth into than US ones. They make you think and you remember the film long after you've seen it.

I disagree with the reviewer on the home page of the movie (from Canada I think). He found it very unrealistic but De Clerambault's Syndrome is real and terrifying for the love object. Look at the unfortunate people (usually women) who've been stalked and often killed over the years. Maybe Canada doesn't have that problem!

Apparently it's one of the most difficult syndromes to 'cure', if ever (like anorexia). The erotomaniac is convinced the love object loves them back but is stopped from returning the love by circumstances such as spouse, colleagues, etc. Even the wearing of certain items of clothing can be interpreted as signals of love. And there isn't much the police can do unless violence takes place.

I found the ending disappointing and ambiguous, but otherwise one to keep.

I felt sorrow for her, only bit where that wavered was when she was manhandling the children in her care,i felt pity for him and i dont know why i felt even more for his poor wife.

reply

Yes I agree, I felt terrified for those poor children. I was also worried about the little dog at the beginning of the film! His whining when she was knocked over was pitiful but I suppose it could have been dubbed on afterwards. (Also what happened when she blocked up the sink in the children's flat? Had she intended to flood the downstairs? - if so we never saw it.)

reply

No we did not see what happened after her blocking the sink,i really dont know why to be honest.S*re eno*gh there is someone saying(on the films main page) this film is one dimensional and that the lead actress can not carry the movie,i so disagree with that.I have not heard of this actress before seeing this(on bbc 4),and will certainly check her other work o*t as i tho*ght her peformance was amazing, and i did care what became of her. Please exc*se spelling i have lost a letter on my comp*ter keyboard lol.

reply

Agreed, I thought that actress was marvellous (Isabelle Carre). Imagine, if it'd been a Hollywood movie the lead would probably have been in line for an Oscar.

(You'll need to find another 'U'!)

Yes I must keep an eye open for BBC4 foreign films in future. Sky rarely show them, if ever, it's all US dross.
