This was a great movie...hopefully the people looking for explosions, gunshots and sex and special effects will be able to sit through it without getting too bored and complaining. Very intelligent, well-directed movie and excellent acting.
shareI agree. I was fascinated with the idea because I have known people like Andre, people who have an unusually strong influence and power over other people. Except that the devotees I knew were not young people like those in the movie. They were fully formed adults. Very intriguing!
shareI loved this movie a lot. I think we've all known someone like Andre, a certain politician comes to mind. That said, maybe I am being dense here but was his connection to the military only that he was teaching at a Maritime type of academy?

Sorry, but I didn't like it.
A little too talky for one. Oh, I know that I will annoy other visitors here. It appears that whenever one disagrees with what is considered an "art piece" it evokes wrath and insults from those with contrary opinions. I found none of the lead characters likable with Mourney particularly despicable. I too have met people like him and I can usually recognize them as phonies. The other three classmates are sheep who do exactly as they are told by the brute Mourney who has some serious problems with his own self esteem. I realize that this is the manner they are meant to portray but I have seen enough of life not to enjoy seeing them on the screen.
No, I don't like movies filled with sex, violence, car chases and the usual fare produced by Hollywood so try not to insult me with the usual charges. I enjoy foreign movies but this was too painful to watch and not even a little entertaining. It reminded me of In the Company of Men, a disturbing Neil Labute biting satire made in 1997. I lasted 45 minutes before I stopped viewing Poison Friends.

I also found it rather dull. I love all sorts of films incl. foreign films but this was just all rather dry. No character development and just far too tiring to sit through.
