Not arrested?! WTF?!

He caused the death of his wife and of other 6 people because he was using the cell phone while driving. So, why he was not arrested?

No one knows he was texting and maybe part of the guilt he felt was that he didn't say anything. What good would it have been to send him to jail instead of helping other people realizing his ultimate mistake while driving.

There are a lot of drivers out there who kill people on the road and get away without any jail time and they don't go out and attempt to right the wrongs like Will Smith did in this movie.

What do you mean, he didn't say anything?

Surely being the only survivor of a multiple fatal car accident, the police would of asked him something. Or are you saying that he is a liar and a coward too.

"What was that, an exhibition?"

reply

Not a coward, a possible liar. But think about it for a second. Is it really worth it for him to go to jail even though he fully understands the gravity of what he did? He was not a coward in that he faced his fate head on and took control in the best ways he could. If he went to jail it would not bring about anything but another life lost in a tragedy as much as I hate to say it. Our justice system is too screwed up already anyway.

So he`s making up the law now?? Yes, I know I`ve done wrong but I`ll punish myself in MY way???? If you look at it that way, then surely Judus was a hero figure and we should be worshiping him for his "sacrifice"

Well I understand your analogy but I am not christian. I am not saying he didn't deserve to go to jail, it was neglect on his part that caused the crash and he knows that. What exactly would they pin him on anyway? Texting while driving was most likely not legal when this accident took place. I am saying that seeing what he did for redemption by sacrificing himself and doing it in so many ways as to help others is better than sitting in a jail cell repenting. Jail would not have saved anyone's life.

This is one of the major problems (of many) that I have with this film, in that all we are given is Tim`s side of the story and are force fed Tim`s feelings and no one elses. If you are so into justice and doing what is right from wrong, then what about the justice for the people he killed? What do they deserve for their grief and suffering? A jury found OJ Simpson INNOCENT of murder, remember, but the family took out a private lawsuit which found him guilty and punished him.

Also, it doesn't really matter whether or not it is legal to text and drive as a means to punish Tim by law. He was clearly responsible for the deaths. There is no law that stops you from juggling bricks over the edge of a skyscraper, but if you drop one and it kills someone, are you not responsible??

Because the story is so shallow and incomplete, we have to sit here and try to explain what would/could naturally happen after the accident. It is very important that we DO understand this too, as it is fueling Tim`s quest.

^^^ Is exactly what I am getting at.

it's clear in the story that years have gone by, he may have been arrested, charged and punished... it clearly happens in California which has extreme prison overcrowding and early release.... he didn't appear to have been drinking... recent vehicular homicides while DUI have gotten probation only in a number of states... and texting while driving in California was legal until Jan 1 2009.
