I loved this movie . I can't believe so many people hate it .

No wonder this movie flopped in US and Canada while earned 200 million dollars worldwide . This was supposed ot be a flop in the US .The movie not only made sense, but was also entertaining to watch . Clash of the Titans used ot be my favorite Greek movie , but after watching Percy , id put Clash second on my list .

I agree, I also enjoyed this film alot. The only thing that bugs me is that the plot focuses on Sean Bean/Zeus and his stolen lightning bolt, yet he only appears in like 2 scenes.

Most of the hate comes from fans of the books. I enjoyed the books immensely (my favorite series) but people have to realize. Most movies are dumbed down versions of their inspiration. (games, books, poems)

reply

The first two Harry Potter movies weren't dumbed down and still are the most faithful to the books. Fox just didn't care enough to put an accurate balanced adaption like Warner Brothers did(Warner accepted JK Rowling's help in making the movie. Fox didn't want Rick's assistance).

Just watched it again and I like it much better than HP for the simple reason, they started making the HP movies before the series was all written. So many of the wrong things got emphasized and many important things got short shrift because no one knew at the time they were important.

reply

Wait, you're comparing the first PJO film to the entire HP franchise? True they're are a few instances. The biggest one that comes to my mind is how in the 5th movie, they omitted the cleaning of Grimmauld Place that included the Slytherin Locket. JK worked with the directors to to inform them of what would happen in the books. While making the first movie, JK pulled Alan aside and told him what would happen to Snape so that he would understand his character's actions (That he is only protecting harry so to not let Lily's sacrifice be in vain.).

I don't really want to get into a huge HP thing on a Percy Jackson board. I don't know why that even needed to be brought up. It was not relevant, especially on a thread with the premise of this one.

I do still read all of the Percy Jackson books at least once a year and I don't think the two films were as bad as lots of people say, just like the OP. But I don't care what JKR did. That whole smarmy thing sucked beyond measure.I was a huge HP fan until the last book. When I went to pick it up, I flipped to the back, saw the so called carpet book that was leaked was true, and handed the book right back to the salesperson and gave up on the whole thing. I haven't even seen all of the last two films and have no desire to.

You brought up Harry Potter originally and I responded. They weren't terrible films when looking at them only. Once you compare them to the books, they're awful. Not so much acting wise, more so on what the added that wasn't canon or didn't included that was important. What about it turned you away? Why did you look at what was released?

I was picking up the book and I knew if if it was like the badly written leaked story ending I wouldn't like it. It was quite obvious Jo had done it before she had much experience with writing and just put it away and then dragged it back out. Not only the ending was unsatisfying either. The whole book left many questions unanswered and it seemed rushed and messy. I was very involved with several of the Harry Potter boards and had seen that on several of them, including fiction alley park. So when it was I didn't buy it. I did read it later at the library and there were just so many things about it I couldn't stand.

Ginny did nothing of importance except be the prize Harry got for winning. Nothing was done to improve inter-house relations despite that being hinted at for ages. Nothing was done about the house elves. In the end Ron has confounded a muggle to get his driver's license, so there is no improvement in magical/muggle relations either. The whole deal with Snape was that he had been lovesick for Lily, which I had been suspecting and dreading for ages. I also thought it was beyond bizarre how the centaurs after pointing out for years that they were a unique race and would never ally with humans did ally with them based on Hagrid's feelings about Harry's supposed death. It was weird to me for the arrogant and superior creatures to suddenly fight alongside humans. Hagrid is who they turned on after Firenze left the forest after all, which was a total turnaround that was not foreshadowed at all, any more than the hallows were, aside from the cloak. I also found some of the deaths unnecessary.

Between the plot holes and loose ends, JKR was just not the writer I thought she was. The books were great up through Order of the Phoenix. Then they went straight downhill FOR ME.

The seventh book was my favorite of the series. How stuff going back from earlier books came into play and even stuff from before the books events started e.g. Dumbledore and Grindelwald, Elder wand. Yes some of the deaths were sad but that's life. People die who shouldn't and it's painful and we start to ask questions "Why them"?.
The book is from Harry's POV. We only see Ginny at/before the wedding and during the Battle of Hogwarts. She along with Neville and Luna restarted Dumbledore's Army and kept all the students alive that still believed in Harry. Is there anything wrong that at the end, after they both survived that they were able to live happily ever after. Nothing was stated in the Epilogue about if it had or not. Hopefully after the Carrows were removed and any Death Eater's children that were in Slytherin realized their mistake, they changed their ways. Hermione did help the house elves, this is an excerpt from this site http://www.beyondhogwarts.com/harry-potter/articles/jk-rowling-goes-beyond-the-epilogue.html and it has all kind of added info that JK released in interviews.

Hermione Granger, Ron's wife, furthered the rights of subjugated creatures, such as house elves, in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures before joining the magical law enforcement squad.

Do you think the revealing of wizards would be something accomplished that quickly. Also it kind of ruins the magic that there could be wizards out there as we are all muggles ;)
But it he loved her so much, he would dedicate is life to keep her son from another man alive so as to defeat the darkest wizard of all-time. That's pretty heroic and admirable.
I'm pretty sure the death of a leader to save his own kind is admired by all creatures.

I don't give a rat's patootie what JKR said in interviews. If she wanted us to know something, she should have put it in the books. When someone picks up these books twenty years from now they aren't going to look up her old interviews so they can know how they are supposed to interpret them. The book was garbage in my opinion. if you liked it I'm glad someone did, but I didn't. I'm not going to discuss this anymore on a board for another franchise.

They changed the title from “The Philosopher’s Stone” to “The Sorcerer’s Stone” because they thought Americans would not know what a philosopher is—but they weren’t edited for idiots on the least😂😂😂😂😂

reply

Believe it or not, I think the movies are much better then the books. You may hate me, but the changes they made are logical and clever and I wish for a third movie

reply

I just watched it again and I agree. People complained because it wasn't exactly like the books. Well, few films are.

reply

It wasn't that it was different from the books. It's bound to be. The problem was it was changed to the point of being a far worse story than the books. Much of the cleverness, intelligence, and charm of the books was also ripped out of this film. Add that to it being a coming of age story where these characters are already of age and it's just "ugh".

Hope they reboot it someday. The story deserves better.

I think you've missed the point of the hate. Rick Riordans books were PERFECT. They would have translated to screen exactly as they were and I believe the series could have been the next Harry Potter-level success. Instead, Hollywood butchered an incredible story beyond belief with a barely recognizable plot, made all the wrong casting choices and just did a sh!t job of bringing to life what was already an amazing story.

I actually really enjoyed the movie when I first saw it. I watched it maybe 3 times and thought it was a lot of fun. Then I read the books and now I can't stand to see this garbage "adaptation" anymore. It's all wrong, changes and cuts out everything that made the books one of the best fantasy adventure series out there.

reply

I enjoyed the movies very much. I just started reading the books and found out that Percy was 12. Logan Lerman was 18 when he The Lightning Thief. Part of what Made the Harry Potter books/movies so good is that we got to see them grow up. I think it was a mistake to start Percy Jackson as a grown up. They should have followed the books in that regard. I really enjoyed the two movies we got, but I think a reboot with Percy as a 12 year old would be much more successful.

reply

I think the real haters were fans of the original book series that didn't like the changes (Disney has been known to do that).
