was the outcome ever in doubt?

In this docudrama, Goering takes the stand early and befuddles American prosecutor Jackson. Then prosecution evidence and British prosecutor Maxwell-Fyfe save the day.

But wasn't the prosecution case already delivered with devastating effect for four months before Goering was allowed to testify? Did Goering ever have any chance to revive Nazism with his testimony? What is with this BBC version?

Maybe it was never in doubt that the Allies would hang Goering (or at least try). But some of the others definitely went through some suspense over whether they would be allowed to live or not. Papen, Schact(sp) and one other fellow were even acquitted.

Did you know that Admiral Donetz probably escaped hanging because of a deposition from U.S. Admiral Chester Nimitz? In which Nimitz confirmed that U.S. submarines in the Pacific practiced the same kind of unrestricted warfare that German U-boats did in the Atlantic.

I was not aware of that.
