how true?

To what extent are these events true? Does this really happen in these communities?

reply

Do a Google of Bountiful BC. This movie is somewhat based on this polygimist community in southeastern British Columbia. Unfortunately it is more true than we would like to believe. Dr. Phil had a show on a year or two ago that actually was centered around Bountiful as well.

This was a very powerful movie.

Yes....deffinitely need to make it clear that this movie IS fiction, however it is based on a story written by a woman who left Bountiful, so although the specific story is infact Fictitious, the bigger story and message it portrays is not.

oh, so the town is wacked not only because of polyganism, but also because someone from there is gay?

hate to disagree with you here because i don't support this kind of marriage or the abuse or exploitation of women but, perhaps you haven't read your Bible very thoroughly. this kind of behavior is all over the Bible, practiced by God's favorites- multiple wives, concubines, slaves, and didn't Lot offer up his virgin daughters to a horde of rapists? God-loving and abusively exploitive are not always mutually exclusive though we may wish that they were.

reply

Even God's favorites arent perfect. Nobody is. Also, God never approved of any of the polygamous behaviour.

This movie was so sad. But I was happy to see that "Judith" and her kids escaped Harmony, esp since so many do not get away and really truly do believe those lies.
I felt sorry that her sister and kids didnt excape, you could see the look on her face at the end (when they were walking and she had her baby in her arms) that she knew that Harmony and all the dwellers there really werent God's chosen people (a people who let rapist's and pedophiles walk about freely isnt an acceptable place to want to live). I think she remained because she had all them kids and didnt want to abandon her faith ( it was all she really knew )and was probably afraid of the unknown.
This movie truly was good at shedding some light on how these backward religions work.

its real sad that there was really polygimist people.

For this in the movie I don't know how true it is. But I have seen and read a bunch of others stories pretty much like the same thing here. I even remember one story on Unsolved Mysteries.
