I had to leave right after Charlotte went off with the stepfather and Jamie.
What happened after that? Did she realize that she was wrong and had made a mistake?
As you probably guessed already, Charlotte's stepdad lied to her about letting her marry Jamie. He actually planned to marry Charlotte himself to get back at Judith, and Jamie was beaten up and left by a road by Nephi and his friends. Judith's sister telephoned her to warn her about the wedding between Charlotte and Josiah, and Judith showed up in the nick of time to stop it. Charlotte went off with Judith and Jamie in the end and so they all escaped the cult.
