what are the vortigaunts saying at the beginning? "Love Child"?

Don't know...

It's not love child, but something along the lines of "Galla" or "Gulla" or "Gallam".

Once you take into consideration their accents and such, you might be confused.

Turn the subtitles on and see if it shows up.
