was that ash or snow fallin from the sky? i mean bolth would work; its set in late fall in russia, so its bound to be snowing by then. but also the citidel and city 17 are on fire thus the ashes. but the only time ive seen ashes fall like rain was when there were really big grass fires here in the central valley. but i saw no grass burnin in the game.
shareIm fairly sure its ash, falling from the Citadel. Theres a lot of burning debris falling from it, and given its massive size, it would probably drop ash over a wide area.

It was named Black Mesa East. The named charactars you meet there are all previous employees of the original Black Mesa, and they are doing fun science stuff, and they're in Eastern Europe, so they named it Black Mesa East.
Regarding the country that City 17 resides in, there were statements in interviews, I believe, that it was located in Eastern Europe, and due to the Cyrillic alphabet used primarily everywhere, it would be part of the former USSR. So, Eastern Eastern Europe.

It is set in that part of eastern Europe where everyone speaks flawless english. Exept for Ravenholm where english speakers is in clear minority, Thats why people dont go there much.
Its also the part of eastern europe that has all the nice beaches and fanatastic coastlines with perfect weather.
