someone is completely out of their F ing mind

this movie is gonna suck
no one in their right mind would make a movie out of that !@#$! book!!!

reply

Well, someone already has made a movie out of the book, not including this upcoming release.

Also, it's probably going to be loosely based on the book, in the vein of I, Robot, or much of Philip K. Dick's work.

reply

oh ok thx
but still

reply

yeah, i can't believe there actually making a book about that crap

the worst, must uninteresting book

idiots

reply

Oh, yes, landscape-2. Undoubtedly this is the worst, most uninteresting book, especially when compared to your collection of Elvis Presley collector plates.

reply

honestly, if you think this is a terrible book, then you clearly have a pint sized intellect. What people forget about Flatland is that it was written in 1884. This work is a tour de force of intellect fused with art, one so great it clearly influenced writers as eminent as Madeleine L'engle, Orson Scott Card, and Ursula K. Leguin, not to mention indirectly influencing the legions of lesser writers who have followed in their footsteps. While there are disturbingly sexist tendencies in this book, I'd argue that you'd be hard pressed to find a male writer in the late 19th century who didn't subscribe to sexist beliefs regarding the social functions of women and men. Those opposed to this book are either ignorant of the actual book (which is amazing) or the world in general (which is sad).

reply

ahlinoi, you're articulate, and well formed response to a clearly ignorant opinion has urged me to actually buy the book.

In other words, thanks for being smart.

reply

it's a great book. just because it is a great book doesn't mean it will make a decent movie. i think it will really be an aweful movie.

reply

according to the official website www.flatlandthemovie.com it is part of an educational DVD, so I dont think you need to worry about it coming to a cinema near you anytime too soon...also Kristen Bell is in it so points there :)

reply

Those sexist tendancies that you speak of are a parody of the view taken of women in Victorian society.
