Beats the hell out of Yugi-oh!

If I told you there was a children's movie that dealt with the space/time continuum, quantum mechanics, social philosophy, and religion, you would be likely to say, "That’s rather deep water"

And it is -- but Flatland the Movie somehow simplifies these topics into an allegory that is enjoyable and entertaining to both adults and children.

Yes there are some logical leaps that need to be made for the sake of making the movie, but they are forgivable

I just saw the movie today and it really very good.

It does an incredible job in simplifying very advanced concepts and I was amazed at how the children in the audience took to this film -- after the showing, I overhead a couple kids (no more than 7 years old) in the lobby discussing what the 4th dimension is -- I thought to myself, "This beats the hell out discussing Yugi-oh."

The overall purpose of this film is for education purposes, to be used as an aid in math courses in grade-level classes. To quote the movie's producer, Seth Kaplan," we feel there are not enough of these movies out there right now."

I agree, and, in this sense, Flatland the Movie is a successful effort. However, I feel as though this film is being sold short as an educational tool, because it is legitimately entertaining.

Animator Dano Johnson has a very innocent, creative style that is fresh and fun -- quite similar to Jim Henson in many respects.

Being only 30 minutes, I feel this movie is a definite "must-see" and hopefully it will be distributed in theaters around the country soon.
