XBOX 360 Racetrack Races

I started playing this to get some achievement points and picked up four so far including the Tractor Tipping, Hot Pursuit, and Unlocking two areas - I was disappointed that completing the Luigi levels and Boot Camp yielded zero achievement points.

Anyway, I never read the instructions and just now learned the trick to tilt the vehicle and was finally able to place 2nd in the third race - but it took all of 11 laps and a quick pit stop to do that so my question is - how the HECK do you race on the speedways?

It doesn't appear to me that my skills (especially boost) translate to the speedway and I'm usually left fighting with the 4th and 5th car or chasing down 3rd until the 4th car zips through car blocks and knocks me back.

What is the secret or tip to get ahead? I notice that after a pit stop you're much quicker? Can you do multiple pit stops? I've been saving mine till the second to last or last lap???

Hopefully you've already made it past this part, but if not, here's what to do. I'd suggest using a technique called "drafting". What you essentially do is speed up along a straight piece of track and get right behind another car. After a few seconds, go to your right or left (whichever is open), and you'll speed right ahead of them...kind of a slingshot effect. Real race car drivers use this technique, although I think there's rules about how close you can actually be. It has worked for me in this game.
