the Alternate ending *spoiler*

Dont get crazy now...you been warned

so as you know, the theatrical original ending was he died with the bad guy inside the car blowing both their brains out...here's the alternate...
Which usually what Hollywood gives "a happy ending"
...going going back to the car with the mob boss, Yes, he pointed the baretta right onto his brain along side with the baddie, have every intention to blow both their brains out, thinking he got nothing else to live for also trapped by the police...but luckily enough, as we usually would expect....his student came to the rescue...comes with a getaway car...after he blow the guy's head-off, kicked the door and got into the getaway car, wounded with gun shots...thai police follows them...student crashes the car and pull Cage out...begs the thai people for help...quoting them (which the answer to earlier scene in the film) "he's a good man, he killed the bad man"...(whatever his name is)
They got their help, (next scene) Cage is all well, gives his student a kayman Island bank numbers (aww isnt that sweet) says his goodbye as he sailed into the sunset whilst the student stood still & looks out to the water...like what we saw on the original. Fin

I preferred the alternate ending and so did my wife. She rated it a 2/10 with the original ending and a 6/10 with the alternate. What happens to the protagonist--anti-hero or not, is important to her in a film.

I preferred the theatrical ending. I was begging him to pull the trigger at the end of the movie because I disliked his character and the movie that much.

I started another thread before I saw this one, the olny improvement would be withthe girl comming back to him

reply

i prefer the alternate ending as well it was the better ending

reply

Yeah me too lol. I dont care for Nicholas Cage much either so I was really rooting for him to pull the trigger. I was pretty surprised that he actually did though.

I agree with you. The movie was too down and depressing to have the stupid depressing ending that it has. The alternate ending was much better--it showed growth of the character that Joe was teaching.

I agree with the guy who said his wife rates this movie as a 2/10 with the theatrical ending, and 6/10 with the alternate ending.

I can see either ending working. I enjoyed the theatrical ending, but my wife didn't like the ending. I thought he should die because he started breaking rules, etc. and the story was never meant to be a happy one.

But I could see how they could somehow rescue Cage and have him retire and leave the business to his errand boy.

I think I liked the theatrical ending a little better.

I HATE the normal ending, i didn't look at the alternate as normally its a slight variation of the same thing, but now maybe i will be able to enjoy all of this movie...

I mean, i really LOVED the movie, the way he killed the guys, so silent and all, remind me of hitman the video game, but that crappy ending... i was like "WTF !!!!"

You must be joking... He could have killed the dude and go away, he wasen't so cornered...

Anyway, disapointing that ending was, to a pretty good movie...

I have nothing like the way Rocky Balboa ended, he may "loose" the fight but its still an happy ending and even if he lost its like he won anyway. I watched the alternate ending on that one, and basically its the same style but he win, but i felt the movie message was better as when he loose. So overall it dosen t change much of the movie whatever ending they kept. But here it change everything...

Wait a minute... in the alternate ending, Nicolas Cage gets to fight Rocky Balboa? That would be waaay better. I can't wait for the Un-Rated Assistant Caterer's Cut 4-disk box set of "BangDangerousKok"!

The main character does not always have to life for me to think the movie is great. However, it was completely out of character for him to just give up and kill himself when he was able to take out an army of bad dudes a few minutes ago and not long before that was able to escape the entire Thai secret service when he was spotted about to kill his last target. The movie ending blows.

reply

agreed. I thought it was a decent enough action film until the ending where the Cage character just seems to give up. I've nothing against the lead dying/living in a film providing it fits what went before it. In this case, I just don't think it did.

reply

I agree. The ending seemed to be a cop-out.

I hated the theatrical ending. It was, as already stated, a cop out and did not fit the character at all. If anything, he would have at least tried to get away and then been killed as he ran off. I personally would have preferred the alternate ending. However, it would have made more sense for him to take the car and run. but it would have been nice to see the growth of the characters in the alternate ending.

The original ending was a cheap attempt to give the film some emotional weight. It worked to an extent, it was a powerful scene by itself, but like what many others have said, it just didn't seem to fit.

On the other hand, the alternate ending was quite cheesy. So I don't know, maybe just switch the film off after Joe puts the gun to his own head? Cliffhanger? =P

Another cop out ending I see.

Hero's mental state of mind magically 180 degree opposite direction with no evidence whatsoever.

Not getting to see Kong with his girlfriend... A thank you, watch return, something...

How many more movies are there going to be with a "surprise / shocking" ending because they wouldn't spend the same effort on the ending as the rest of the movie?

(Looking at you MIST !!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The situation should never be used, but if you must, watch the Punisher (2004) where there's actually a story and purpose behind the situation.
