DIRECT COPY OF MILLIoN DOLLAR BABY.THERES NO STOPING TO BOLLYWOOD.

What a cheap little unoriginal industry that strives on getting success by copying Hollywood, from its films to its style to its premier, scandals, couples boosts and all that. And now, they've come up with a new plan, insult a great, emotionally tragic film,MILLION DOLLAR BABY, by injecting ridiculous, family struck issues in a story about boxers.Just read the story of this flick and you can clearly tell it's a copy. And I don't care what you say to defend your precious little movie, you can't escape the facts,sUCKAS.

movielord what you are saying is not wrong, hell I wont even try to defend.I just say it seems blatantly generalisation.I dont know how much you have followed indian movies but there are many "great" movies which dont see the light of the day abroad. Some of them dont even get the recognition in India.

I follow likes fellini, bergman, kurosawa, godard, tarkovsky, kurick, ghatak ,ray etc but I have followed enough of quality contemporary indian cinema to not make that kind of statement. It seems you have chosen copied films to make your judgement.

"And you own people prefer junks like DHOOM2 over impressive films like BLACK FRIDAY OR COMPANY,where they sent wrong films for the osacrs,Rang de BAsanti? Please,Devdas, you should've sent Company jerks. "

100% agree and I feel embarassed by that myself. But its same in america if you are in touch with third rate 300 and ghost riders dominating the BO.But that is not an excuse. Its just a sad reality.

apne is directed by Anil sharma, the most melodramatic & talentless director in bollywood ( Gadar not withstanding), apne in no way should be a measure for bollywood, have u watched omkara, traffic signal, water, life in a metro, bheja fry recently??.. thats a true guide to bollywood, not this regressive piece of trash

is it actually a copy of hillary swank's million dollar baby? this is something that i want to confirm before i go to see apne. can somebody please tell me. thanks.

Hi Sapraj2711. The OP has not even seen the film, so is making baseless allegations.

I have seen both, and Apne does not even slightly resemble Million Dollar Baby.

It is an original boxing story about Baldev(Dharmendra) who wants boxing to become a popular sport in India, and wants an Indian to become a world heavyweight boxing champion, a title which he would have got, before he was accused of doping on drugs and publically humiliated. Since that day he is disgruntled and wants to reclaim his name. He then becomes a famous boxing coach in India and trains his Angad(Sunny Deol) who refuses to fight in the national champion, because he thinks boxing is a worthless game for his career and leaves it to become famous in another career, bringing about a revolution in agriculture. But since that event, Baldev has not forgiven his son and refuses to talk to him. His other son(Bobby Deol) is physically handicapped in one of his arms, and cannot realise Baldev's dream. Because of this their family has broken apart, Baldev has left boxing and now lives an unfulfilled life. But times change, when a former friend, a powerful business man persuades him to return to boxing. A huge global competition is being run, where one boxer will be selected from each continent, and the winner of the competition will get to fight Lucia Garcia, the undefeated world heavyweight champion, and claim his title. Baldev has to train an Indian to claim that title and fulfill his dream and clear his name.

How he does that? Who he does that with? Is the story of the film. There are enough twists and turns to make this film very watchable for you. The boxing scenes alone are worth the price of the ticket. This is one of those few films where you can actually join in on the action.

I really liked Million Dollar Baby up until the last couple of parts. The sad ending kinda ruined it for me. Does Apne have a sad ending, too, or does it have a happy ending?

reply

I can assure you that there is a happy ending...though I kinda would have preferred a sad one

The OP is a fool. Talk less about the Bollywood film industry and shed some light on the Hollywood movies that are being made which are essentialy shot by shot remakes of lesser known foreign movies!in the last year alone we have had Death at a Funeral, Let Me In and The Next Three Days...

You moron, how was this in any shape or form a copy of Million Dollar Baby? Because it's a boxing movie? That's like saying Field of Dreams is a rip off of Major League. What an idiot.

reply

Ok, I've read it. Ive seen Apne as well. They ight both be about boxing, but I dont think you see the story between the two.

In Million Dollar Baby, it's a story about a girl who's determined to become a boxer and wants to be coached.
In Apne it's about ones honor and dignity. It's a fathers honor which is lost due to a conclusion given by the court that the father was found doping. Suspended for 15 years his only way to retain is honour was to train his sons.

How on Earth are they the same? Sure maybe some scenes look familiar and some script maybe similar.

But from what I see there is no way it can be a complete copy the way you say it is.

Boxing or sport movies aren't something common in the bollywood industry I admit. But when they make them, they like any other person does research, tries to come up with a plot and storyline and adds their own drama to it and their own twists.it's only or could be taking a extract from one thing, and tries to make it different and original.
If this was a copy then the storyline would be exactly the same, the plot, twists and turns would be exactly the same. But it's not like that, there is a thing for copyright where movies cannot be copied unless it's original work. So in other words this movie cannot be copied and turned into indian unless they have permission to do so from the director, producer and all cast from the movie.
It's simply taking a look, taking an idea, and making up their own story and plot from it.

I don't know how you see it, but this is only my point of view.

I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby completely, I've only read the script and seen a lot of clips about it. From trailers, to fan made clips and fights and scenes.

Apne is not only a story about boxing, but it's also to do with family, dear ones.
That is why it was named Apne. It was meant to have this whole background combining sport with family, the issues behind it and just the overall outcome of how only the dear ones can give you strength to move forward.

Just think about it, thoroughly, you'll see what I mean.

I don't know how you see it, in a lot of PoV this may be a copy, a complete copy or whatever you want to call it. This is only my point of view.

The Bollywood industry i must say though, has made movies which are really almost exact duplicates of hollywood movies like "Ek Ajnabe" and one of those American movies I cannot quite remember the name of it. Also some others, but overall the difference between Bollywood and Hollywood, is that first Hollywood is Westerners things. In other words a lot of their movies are original and some are even epic ones such as "Titanic" etc. Hollywood has their own style of showing action, love, drama and etc. Their movies are western based. Bollywood are most time traditional based. Only thing that has changed in bollywood that it's trying to differentiate between western society and india in general. So most movies like "Salaam Namaste" and or "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna" they bring in indian tradition into western and its effects and differences between them.

I dont want to blab on about these things so I'll just say to finish.
Whether Bollywood copies or not, there is always a difference between the copied movies and or the originals. They each differentiate in storyline and plots.

Apne by far has been an extraodinary movie I've seen in the sports movie section of India which brings in family, honor, loyalty and tradition to make such a nice tone, mood and setting overall.

I've seen both films more than 10 times , and I like them both ... very gd performances throughout and very good screenwriting. And they are totally different films.
The OP needs to get his/her facts right.
