The kid and the scarf...

In the beginning of the show, Jack gives the scarf (I think it was a scarf) to the kid. He says he was going to give it to his daughter one day. So I ask, do you think this was important, and if so does it mean:

(*) Kim will no longer be on the show (since he gave the scarf away)
(*) Kim will be on this season (they are reminding us of Kim)
(*) It is not significant at all!

I think the scraf was given to the kid, to give him something to have to go back for in the forest with the mines, setting up up Bentons death.

I think it has to show how smypethetic Jack still is
