Shouldn't it be called '2'?

it should be called "1 hour and 32 minutes: Redemption" because of the commercial breaks.

By that logic the show itself should be called “18” seeing as the episodes are roughly 45 minutes long. To be even more precise each episode averages 44 minutes, then you have 2 minutes of “Previously on 24” at the beginning and about 30 seconds of credits at the end, making each episode closer to 41 1/2 minutes for a grand total of 16.5 total hours, not 24.

Hahahahahaha, exactly

As with the series, time continues during the commercial breaks

So the story plays out over 2 hours, you just don't get to see what happens "live" during the commercials

Same thing with the seasons, each season is the full 24 hours long, you just aren't watching and the time stamps show you the passage of time even over a commercial break

They used 24 for name recognition. It happens all the time. The much-talked about theatrical movie will probably have the number 24 in the title too.

Thank you.

This "2" joke seems old and played out.

That and continuity. Calling it '2' would make it a different series entirely.

It's called 24 because of the format of the show (a real-time look into a few hours of a 24 hour day), not by the number of episodes or hours.

On a somewhat related topic: I've encountered people who have never watched 24 but are aware of the format so assume every season is the day after the last. So basically, season 7 would be "a full week now".

That's silly. Only season one takes place over the course of one full calendar day, meaning that it starts and ends at midnight as opposed to sometime in the morning. It still lasts 24 hours but is spread over parts of two days.

No, the plot still takes over 24 hours to go through, it just cuts even more out than the show.
