Also email points of view - [email protected], they are featuring Lilies.
And perhaps write to newspapers etc

I just sent a polite but firm e-mail. If enough people send them, they'll HAVE to do something.

Dear Jim

Thank you for taking the trouble to write about Lilies. In truth we have been totally overwhelmed and overjoyed by some of your reactions, and this has definitely provided Peter Fincham and me with some food – and pause – for thought.

I do hope you will continue to enjoy other BBC dramas, there is a terrific range of pieces on offer over the next 18 months and I am hopeful that there will be something else for you to love alongside of Lilies.

With best wishes

Jane Tranter

Controller, Fiction

It wasn't from her, it was from a secretary or someone, but at least they had the courtesy to reply. They don't actually commit themselves, but they haven't ruled it out altogether either.

Mmmm, I never got a reply from her...

My e-mail was all about praising them for the show, and then qualifying it by pleading for a second series. It's all about psychology.

This one isn't as encouraging...

Dear Jim

Thank you for your e-mail.

As I am sure you will appreciate, the Acting Chairman and other members of the BBC Trust receive more correspondence than they can deal with personally, so once letters have been read they are forwarded by their office to BBC Information. This department has a wealth of knowledge about BBC programmes and policies and is experienced in the workings of the Corporation. The Acting Chairman and members of the BBC Trust have therefore authorised us to reply on their behalf.

I appreciate that you are disappointed that 'Lilies' has not been commissioned for a second series.

The BBC is committed to making a broad range of varied and ambitious drama. Part of this is achieved by us introducing new and exciting period drama to the schedules each year. But in order to achieve this we do have to move on from some pieces in order to allow new work to come through. For example this autumn we are premiering a new 5-part period drama written by Lilies' writer Heidi Thomas and based on Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford novels to star Dame Judi Dench, as well as a new adaptation of 'Sense and Sensibility'. We are also committing to a major new period drama series that will run for a number of weeks in 2008, as well as a range of other new period drama serials.

Please be assured that your additional comments on this matter have been fully registered and made available to the 'Lilies' production team and indeed senior management within the BBC. Feedback of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC programmes and services and your views will play a part in this process.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us with your concerns.

Regards

Jonathan Dunlop

Well said!

They've been grossly patronising to Lilies fans on this matter.
I'm astonished you got a reply from Tranter - the only one I got was the standard PR bilge.
I have spoken though to one of the senior management who told me they had never even looked at the BBC Lilies web site where there are thousands of messages from fans calling for a 2nd series. That's outrageous I think!

I dare say they've probably prepared a standard reply for all the Lilies e-mails. One thing that annoyed me was that they try to console us by saying they've got lots of other great "costume dramas" coming up. That's like taking the FA cup off the TV and saying, "oh don't worry, we have some cricket and rugby and stuff coming up."
